I read the following thread on this forum.

Well, a lot of the posters were wondering WHY in the previous 4 games, Yao Ming sort of hesitated or slow to think and react when he received the ball in the high post or low post, and very often he waited for the double-team before he kicked the ball out to his team mates with open looks, and very seldom he decided to shoot the ball himself......

Well, the following article from Wang Meng might throw us some light.

Yao Ming is too good a team player, and too obedient a player.....and he just took those instructions literally from Rick Adelman like Bible. Luckily, the latest instructions from Rick Adelman is "Shoot the ball when you receive the ball down the low post and there is no double team around you !!"

That's WHY he kept scoring in those clutch minutes in 4Q against San Antonio Spurs and no longer waited for the double-team before kicking out the ball to his team mates.

You're right, slowly but surely things come alone and I'm sure if Yao stays healthy he will be dominant as never before.
It's really amazing to see guy that is 7.6 ft and does all these kinds of things.
Our No.11 is on the track again, watch out ;)

This is unselfish of Yao to listen to the coach and play the way that helps the team... but then it lets the other team take Yao out of the game simply by doubling on the catch. Basically I was right; Adelman was the one telling Yao to kick the ball out and wait for the doubles. I guess the days of Yao shooting over double teams are gone.

If Adelman is going to do that and not let Yao attack double teams, he needs to keep Yao in the game by reposting him. There was some more of that today, which is good.

Yao is adaptable, submissive, receptive and cooperative ......sometimes, to a fault, not aggressive enough in other's views

yao would make a horrible QB. he has a lit of trouble reading the defense. he either gets into pass mode, or shoot mode. he needs to adapt to each play differently.

Unfortunately, putting Yao in the high post is basically the closest thing to quarterbacking a team in basketball as it gets.

what is wrong with having Yao pass out of double teams? If his teammates are hitting open shots I don't see a problem with Yao getting 10 assists a game. If his teammates aren't that's another issue but that's one of those things that isn't always predictable and develops over a course of a game.

I see it as simply Coach 'A' made the correct adjustments after seeing the
+ & - of the previous games. More adjustments are still needed! :p

Well I would say that Yao Ming is the Franchise player and most efficient scorer of the team. The position Of Playmaker is most often given to the Point Guard. Otherwise we could be wasting our valuable commodity:p

adelman said to pass when the double teams converge IMMEDIATELY. you HAVE to pass when that's the case. yao is too slow to do anything if the double teams come RIGHT AT THE CATCH.

but v. the mavs and yesterday in the first half, he WAITS FOR THE DOUBLE TEAMS by holding onto the ball for 3-4 s when he could have used that time to attack. that's what adelman told him to do.

if you don't know this simple concept of basketball, just watch some more.

you want to attack before the double teams. that's what yao failed to do v. the mavs for the most part and yesterday in the first half.

what can u do when u catch and the double is already there? 99% of the time EVERY player has to pass.
