I was one of Jeff Van Gundy's biggest fans. I was a JOF. And this isin't taking anything out of his Rockets legacy (in fact, I think a large part of his work is still present in the Rockets of today...)...

But WOW. Given the meters we were setting for the team earlier (i.e: JVG's first-year team was also 24-20 at this point etc...I distinctly remember Clutch writing that it took a 8 game winning streak out of that point to get the Rockets into playoff contention...and then lo and behold, 22 game winning streak here! But I digress...), isin't it impressive that...with 16 games remaining...

The Rockets, under coach Adleman's first-year tutelage and the constant shifts and changes that has brought...

Have now managed to clinch a better record then JVG in his first year.

    46-20!

these numbers are useless. JVG got a better record with basically the same group. Not one player on this team was in there for 02-03 (francis and Yao are not playing thus do not count)

I do agree if he can keep this up and best JVG's record last year he will have my props.

It's cool to distort the facts. JVG did not have a better record.

well Adleman is more than likely going to lead the Rockets to a better record than last years team at the current rate we are winning now. Even if we go .500 the rest of the year that will still put us at a record of 54-28.

    43-39 < 45-37

    Am I missing something?

If he does I will agree.

I won't even mention that our 4 position is a BIT better this year or that Yao played in 7 more games this year.

I thought you were saying JVG had a better record than Adelman. So 45-37 < 46-20.

And I wont even mention that you are comparing a Rockets team in its 4th year under Gundy to a Rockets team in its first year under Adelman. Damn I just did.

In its 4th year under Adelman, Rockets will be looking at 60+ wins.

Which would be an improvement that is 1 game less than what JVG did in 4 years.

You are just mad I said we got a huge improvement at the 4 spot huh? :D

OK, I've had a bit to drink tonight so maybe I'm missing something, but WTF is that 43-39 number coming from?

It is much easier to improve on a 40 win season than it is to improve on a 50 win season and so on....

It's not a linear progression as you are trying to make it out to be.

One thing I do remember staying the same during last 4 years was that...Rockets went out in first round in Gundy's first year. Rockets went out in first round in Gundy's last year.

Forget 4 years, If Adelman can take Rockets out of first round in even his first or second year, its no contest. If he were to do it this year, he will do it WITHOUT Yao. Which will be...

    ...end of discussion.

And I wont even mention that the Western Conference is much tougher now compared to when Gundy first came here. ;)

Why would I be mad that we made an improvement at the 4 spot? Rather, I found it amusing that you bring out something while starting of with "And I wont mention..."

Seems like you already have your excuses lined up.

Gotcha. He's saying that both coaches had better records in their first year than the previous coach...

He was talking about Rudy's last year here, but even that is not correct. He actually had a WORSE record than Rudy's team before Rudy left the team due to his health. Prior to that, the Rockets was almost a sure-in for playoff, had better record than JVG's team next year at the same point.

Mr. Mean just destroyed that team, as no one possibly could.

Good point. The Rockets were on pace to make the playoffs with Rudy that year but after he went out with health problems, the team just fell apart.

The Rockets needed JVG when he was hired, and he instilled a sense of professionalism and lunch pail effort into them, then it was time for him to go, and a players's coach took over to take that next step.

    It is all good.

JVG had a worse record than RudyT's last year and possibly Adelman's first year. JVG only fans lose again. At least, JVG lovers can take solace that JVG sure makes a great commentator. I can't get enough of him on ABC.

Uhh.. what are you even arguing? You can hardly compare the same team's record two years in a row - because players change, mature, decline, etc. Yet you guys are trying to compare JVG's first year with Adelman's? Or Rudy's almost full season record with JVG's almost full season record? That's ridiculous.

Look at the talent Adelman has - this is clearly the most talented team we've had in a long time. Props go to Morey for re-tooling this lineup. That shouldn't discredit former coach's accomplishments.

I mean we had Clarence Weatherspoon playing JVG's first year! Come on!

I am sorry LongTimeFan, if you thought I was arguing with Daoshi. I was agreeing with him.
