Time Warner Cable has like three cable internet providers...Roadrunner, Earthlink, and AOL :). Most people have dial-up. But there is an increasing number of broadband users. And most of those people use Roadrunner. So which one is better? Roadrunner or Earthlink? Mainly...which one is faster? I know Earthlink is cheaper for now.

I'm doubting you're going to find many people who have used both..

Good luck. (I use roadrunner, btw.)

I've used both. I've actually had less problems with my Earthlink.

Actually, my Earthlink is DSL, but I still like it better.

I have used both and its basically the same thing. Earthlink goes through Time Warner for cable connection service, so its the same thing. The reason I switched over cause Earthlink had a deal going on where for the first 3 months was only $20 and $42 per month afterwards, which comparable to $45 a month for Roadrunner. I also had DSL a few years back and love cable much more. The main reason is because I am over 18,000 ft from my TELCO which only got me down speeds up to 200kpbs.

anything that isnt america online can be considered great. i use roadrunner and i havent had any problems with it what-so-ever. im not sure how much it differs from place to place. im in austin and its still pretty fast even during peak hours. i havent heard anything bad about earthlink. i actually dont use anything "roadrunner" based except the email address and the connection. time warners customer service is decent as well. its nice they dont hold it against me for all the times i called screaming about why the rockets game wasnt on my digital cable or my nba package even though it should be. :D

be sure to check out my favorite broadband website: http://www.dslreports.com

they cover all forms of broadband and you can do a search for broadband in your zip code and see what connection speeds are like.... they also have thousands of user reviews for almost all broadband providers.

For example, I have trouble getting some regular email that I expect. They interpret it as spam becaue it comes from the same source on a regular basis. It's my understanding that this is the influence of AOL on RoadRunner.

    Right? Wrong?

Earthlink uses roadrunner's lines...so as long as TW is up and running...earthlink and RR would be the same.
As has already been noted, earthlink has a better deal going right now.
I am using earthlink because I already had their dialup service when broadband became available, and it meant that I wouldnt have to change email addresses when I upgraded to cable.

I have had very few problems..every once in a while, their dns gets flaky and I have to reset my cable modem...but other than that, it works great.

I had RoadRunner the past 2 years, and for the past 2 months I've been using Earthlink. It's the exact same speed, so dollar for dollar you get a heck of a better deal with Earthlink. It's no contest, get Earthlink.

Does anybody here have cable broadband (RR/Earthlink) and run it over the same cable used by Direct TV?

I am thinking about getting Earthlink broadband, but I am not so trusting of how a sales person would answer the above question.

BTW, I chose Earthlink because they have a long history in the ISP business. They also have nationwide dailup support which may come in handy for my wife.

do you mean you have the old DirectTV line and you want to use it to hook up the RR? or will the satellite system be running at the same time?

If at the same time...I dont think that would work...pretty sure it wouldnt..
I went ahead and trashed my DirectTV when cable became available and went with TW dig cable..at least I dont lose the signal when it rains(like it has rained around here lately:()

Had DirecTv/Primestar for six year. I have only lost the signal twice for no more than thirty minutes total. It has to be raining really, really hard for the signal to go out.

Had TW cable in apartment before and went without services for days  and even lost signal during hard rains

BTW, I think it is possible to run RR with Dish Network (or so I have been told).
