not sure if anyone caught inside the nba last night after the suns mavs game. towards the end of the show ernie johnson asked charles of the western conference teams that did not make the playoffs last year, who will make it this year? charles was quick to say the jazz and hornets. As ernie ran down the list (with clips from each team) when they came to the rockets charles said they are a question mark. As the segment ended charles re-iterated his picks and Kenny mention houston being a question mark and then charles says no i dont think they'll make the playoffs. the two teams he said the jazz and hornets replace are the grizzles and the nuggets. he said the grizzles have it bad cuz of the injury to gasol (i am sitting there thinking so you give them a pass because one player is injured??!) anyways the way i see is that barkley is picking, the spurs,mavs,suns,clippers, lakers,kings,jazz and the hornets to all finish better than the rockets. on a side note he did say he was looking forward to see the rockets play on thursday against the bulls (on tnt). we'll see what he says after that. i hope he continues to hate cuz everytime he has said something good about the rockets the rockets get burned or do bad. I dont care that he isnt picking the rockets to win it all but to say they wont make the playoffs was a bit maddening.
Barkley's opinion on these matters aren't very significant. He's isn't paid for his analysis, just to deliver his opinion in entertaining ways.
Kenny saying something like that is a bit of a suprise, he should know better, at least I would think. You have to remember, Charles is mainly on for entertainment purposes. He picks the trendy team to win the West, usully the Spurs, Mavs, or Phoenix, and then picks other teams to how they're playing at the moment. I really would not take anything he says seriously.
yes i caught that. you forgot to add the kenny said "last year [the rockets] were talking about a championship, but this year its about the playoffs". - a reference to how competitive the west will be. kenny added "in the west it's about staying healthy. every team is an injury away from not making the playoffs." this i agree with. as far as charles, he barely know's where anyone play's (if you ever watch the segment "who he play for?"). how can he actually predict who will do well or not? as a rocket fan i will admit that making the playoffs this year will be tough. spurs, mavs, suns, clippers, lakers, jazz and hornets all have a chance at 50+ wins as well as the rockets. i tihnk chuck forgot about the kings. i don't think they will make the playoffs.
AWESOME!! Who the heck needs Barkley endorsement?? If I recall, last year he got on the bandwagon early on and look what happened. It's much sweeter when we can prove the naysayers wrong. They'll all be eating their words soon enough!
Didn't barkley say that Yao would never even score 20 points in the NBA when Yao was first drafted?? I've always enjoyed barkley, but I know to take his opinons with a tub of salt.

Well hello, the Rockets have only shown very small glimpses of being a playoff team. Once they get it togehter a little more, be consistent, stop giving up big leads, or stop falling behind big, then we can talk more about payoffs. Utah and NO/OK are winning. So you gotta pick them right now, but as many have said, it's early...waaaay early. Will we make the playoffs? I think so, but i don't blame some for thinking they might not since the Rockets still have a lot of proving to do.

Two of the teams Barkley picked have just beaten the Rox, the Rox are usually a great road team but struggled to keep MEM and MIL at bay, McGrady looked like a ghost of himself until the MIL game, Wells can't get well...meaning the rotation is very young or pretty old, the odds of DAL going from the Finals to the Lottery (barring an injury) are remote, POR and GSW look much improved, and even if Utah falters or is a early season flash someone from the NW Division is guaranteed a spot. Arithmaticallly, there are only 5 spots available because Div winners get an automatic berth. So unless we beat out both SAS and DAL that's the pool we're in. Do-able...but hardly a walk in the park. But then again...maybe Charles just doesn't have any faith in $Ball.
it's doesn't really surprise me.. I mean, comeon guys, it's Charles Barkley.. I just love to listen to him, but everything he says is BullsH!t, I got used to it.. I am so glad he is counting us off because he everytime he supports us, we lose.. every single time.. he favored us against dallas in 04-05 (after the first 2 games of course) and he said we would sweep them, guess what happened ?? boom, Dallas win 3 games in a row.. in the allstar game, he said, "T-mac will be MVP of the allstar game", guess what happened, Tmac has most points, last shot, dumb a$$ LEbron fouls him.. no whistle, Lebron gets MVP.. that's not mentioning the Donkey's a$$ kiss..

Barkley - Big Bum- Big Gut- Big Head - even with all of that he couldn't play defence! Mr. Fat is a disgrace, to think he was in a Rocket's uniform makes me sick to the brain!
Barkley was a slob and in his NBA career he did not even have half the work ethic of let's say, Garnett. I am not surprised that he's carrying this attitude off the court.
