The update finally released today. Its not an OTA update (Over the Air). You have to download the Samsung Kies mini program in order to do the update. Took them long enough
dudes, screw the official updates, xda and some knowledge of what you are doing can get you gingerbread.
Ahh Samsung. I will never buy a phone from them after reading this. For those still unsure about following that link, it's the leaked explanation of the real reason why all the Samsung phones in the US are still running Eclair. Forget the "quality control issue" BS they keep trotting out.
You wouldn't consider the Nexus S? Only thing worrying me about this phone is how they're treating the Nexus One in regards to Gingerbread.
I'm considering the upcoming 4G version of the Nexus S. The only thing holding me back is the specs will probably be blown away by newer dual-core models this summer (and I'm greedy).
I don't think it will be an actual Nexus device. Samsung is probably coming out with it, but it will be loaded with Touchwiz, and not pure vanilla Android like the Nexus line. The only confirmed 4g device Samsung has announced is the Vibrant 4g. In regards to new Android phones having more specs and power, that's going to happen as long as Android is out there. At least with the iPhones, you know your device is king for a year. And to be honest, having the latest Android OS isn't really what it's cracked out to be. You're essentially Google's guinea pigs, and you have to deal with a lot of bugs and issues. They like releasing their products as fast as they can, and worry about polishing the flaws down the road.
I downloaded it from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Telephony-SMS-GSM/Samsung-Kies-Mini.shtml Also make sure you turn on/off (I can't remember which one) your USB debugging when you use the program and you connect your phone. Otherwise it will keep saying "connect your phone".
It will be a 4G version of this: http://www.google.com/nexus/#. It isn't confirmed yet but the rumors make sense. I'll hang on to my MyTouch 4G until T-Mobile comes out with a worthwhile upgrade.
