I personally do not believe the articles on Sina.com. Did T-MAC really say this?

    ---------------------------------------------------

Luo Ke: You will play without Yao Ming for the rest of the season. Does this means the team will change the playing style?

T-Mac: When Yao is on court, we are a slow-rhythm team. I am not criticizing Yao, but sometimes, when Mutomb is on court, our defence gets better. That is exactly what he (Mutomb) brings to us. When he is playing, he brings us the intimidation defensively. And when we run a small lineup, he is quicker and faster, and is an outstanding shot blocker. On offence, we play faster, spread the floor, and no one stubbornly play on the post (死扛). This is our playing style now.

Yes, I believe I did hear him say this but I don't think this was a knock on Yao. I do think they are better defensively with Deke on the floor than they are with Yao. I really don't think he said this to make Yao look bad. Don't think it should be taken that way.

They ought to call that site Spin.com because the embarrassing almost unnatural love for Yao is sad.

Dike is a legendary shot blocker (2nd all time), so of course were better defensively with him on the floor. I don't think this could be seen as a knock against Yao in any way, its a fact

Especially when you consider that Deke only plays half the minutes Yao does....

when deke is IN (which is only 15-20 mins a game), i do feel we are better defensively.

but when deke is OUT, vs big teams like the hornets last night, we are not. we give up def. rebounds and penetration quite often (yao plays more than 20 mins a night).

BUT, when we play teams who run the pick and roll a lot, we ARE better b/c we can switch on everything. with yao, teams KILL us with the pick and roll.

Thanks. Is there a link I can listen to his talk?

It may be lost through translation by the Chinese reporter. It also implies that the team is better in offence. The word 死扛 is not that good. Basically means more personal stubbon attack and less team offence.

The thread deserve a lock. Someone has posted the original words from McGrady already.

McGrady is a native English speaker. Please try to find his original words before posting any of your translation from another translation.

Q: But now you've lost Yao for the rest of the season, so doesn't the style of play have to change again?

A: With Yao we're more of a slower team. It's no knock on Yao, but sometimes we're a lot better defensive team when we have Dikembe out there because that's really what Deke brings to us. He brings that presence, that intimidating factor back there in the back. When teams sometimes go small, Deke is mobile and he's a great shot-blocker. Offensively we're just more up-tempo, spreading the offense out, the paint's not clogged up and that's how we're playing.

Right. Let us give Deke the chance to stay 40 mins on court. Then we'll stay our streak alive until the end of this season. :D

    Anything to do with Sina?

Has Sina published anything in English on this matter? Is it kind of lost in translation?

if he didn't say 'sometimes' then it would look really bad for Yao. everyone knows we're much better defensively with Deke.
