The NBA is full of ridiculous rules and this shows why real All Stars never made it to "THE All star Game". Vernon Maxwell should've been in there at least in 93-94 and Thorpe many more times than just in 91-92. McGrady doesn't even deserve it because he's been injured for a while and hasn't been producing. It's obvious and it's unfair to other players + i like that McGrady is willing to give up his spot. There are plenty of players out there who wouldn't have given up their spot, no matter what. Tough luck Tracy.

He can still be injured and opt out.

The quote they used in the article was from one of his post-practice interviews video someone posted on the BBS earlier.

He says that now, but first of all, unless he is physically unable to play, I do not know if he will be allowed to relinquish his SPOT. He may be able to let another start in his place (I think that is what Vince Carter did with Michael Jordan a few years ago). As I said, that is what he says now. I have a feeling that with the games we have left before allstar weekend, if he can get his shot going and get his game back on top and get our team rolling, he will most likely play. You all have to admit, before the nagging injuries, he was playing almost stellar basketball. The games where he would play 2 quarters and leave, or play while hurt are what really hurt his percentage, overshadowing the great start he had. At one point before the injuries about 8 games in he was shooting about 46 percent from the field.

Remember last year when he had said he didn't wanna do the New Orleans ASG anyway? That's probably all it is. It's not that he wants to give up his spot, I bet it's more that he's scared that it's gonna be worse than last year's game in Vegas. Why didn't he give up his spot in 05-06 when he was hurt half the year?

but that's during the katrina incident. everything is fine there now. he knows he doesn't deserve it. and he probably will volunteer NOT to play more than 5-6 minutes to give more shine to the more deserving ones.

in 05-06, he was injured A LOT after the all-star break. before the break, he went on a tear of 6 straight 30+ pt games. so he probably believe he could have dominated and he did the all-star game.

Tmac, instead of speaking on givin' up an All-star spot. Why don't you tell those fans who supported you and voted you that you won't disappoint them again.

if you play the way you played thus far, all-star spot won't be the only spot you will be givin' up.

the game was in houston that year I think everyone would be all over him for giving up his spot then. it was probably the one game he played really well that year and even then the refs jobbed him in his hometown to give LBJ the MVP

He explicitly said that he wanted to give up his spot because he thinks that there are others who are more deserving than him. Continues to prove my point that people will bash T-Mac for whatever he says, regardless of what it is. One one hand they'll accuse him of being dishonest, on the other hand if he's being honest then he needs to "shut up".

Nobody "deserves" to play in an All-Star game. Fans vote for who they want to see. Real awards come in the post-season.

The wave of "McGrady has no heart and the fact that he doesn't want to play in the All Star Game shows he isn't a competitor" posts should be coming in 3...2...1.....

Yeah, I would much rather spend time in Darfur than New Orleans. I am hoping Tmac will back away from that ridiculous statement since he has spent time in Darfur. Hopefully he is still not standing by that.

Great point.. it's just more or less a popularity contest... I would like to see Rafer in the All Star game as 'Skip to My Lou'

Yes, people do. The all-star game is for the best and of course, the show-offs, so for players who deserve it. Thorpe deserved a spot for years and only got it until 91-92. There was a NBA action episode with a profile of Thorpe and some players like Horace talked about him and that he deserved to be in there at least a few years in a row. So if you think nobody deserves it you disagreeing with a lot of players incl. McGrady and Horace Grant.
