Dude, we don't play them for a while.....should have saved this for the laker thread or not posted it all. There are enought tmac bashing threads....
We (the Rockets only fans) don't care about Tmac in Orlando. Quit posting Orlando Magic crap on the Rockets GARM. Its not like it was Jordan in Chicago where he won 6 titles, at least you can make a case about it. TMac in Orlando did nothing but make you stat freaks and highlight reel people happy. What's next? Rafer in Toronto?
...naw you gotta go back to Rafer at the Rucker for a better comparison. i like the RoF comment though, i might put that in my sig.
It's been harped on over and over, but it comes back to health. People keep talking about age, but give me a break, he's only 29, the theoretical prime of an nba superstar. Pierce, Kobe and Garnett are still nasty and they're all older. I use Tracy's performance the first nine games in the 07-08 season as an example. He was totally healthy and played out of his mind. Everyone on this board noticed too. The 47 point outing vs. Utah was a good example. Then the elbow hyperextension happened, then the knee. Hell, he was awesome on the playoffs last year and that knee swelled up on him even in shootaround. After coming off two surgeries in the offseason, I think anybody would look like a shell. But I'm calling it, just give it some time. The 04-05 Tmac is too much to expect, but if he can keep healthy, get strong again, and gain some mental confidence, I think we will see a top 10-15 player in the league again. People are impatient around these parts, but start paying extra attention into late december/early january...because I think T-MAC is going to explode back onto the main stage at some point this season.
No it's gonna be Ron in Sacramento or Battier in Memphis since their not on their game right now, either way people just need to have faith we'll get through these hard times and before you know it we'll be on another level. Keep doubting...haters...
Numerical age isn't always a good indicator to use as a basis for expectation. McGrady has a deformed spine in addition to his knee and shoulder issues. Doctors and coaches didn't expect him to last more than 5 seasons as a productive player. It may be 29 years since he was born but he often plays with the athleticism of a 39 year old. As far as being awesome in the playoffs last season, while he put up big numbers, his percentages were horrible. The last all-around good playoff performance for him was against Dallas. You are predicting (wild guessing) that he will have a resurgence but you really have no idea how his body/mind will hold up. It only takes one play to end a player's season, especially in McGrady's case. It seems unlikely that he won't improve as bad as he's played so far but who knows, it may get worse.
Its his knee. Like Francis, Tracy bounces off the ground when he dunks...and sometimes when he shoots. When you land, your legs (knee) bend slightly inwards. Carl Landry does it too. I have the same problem with my right knee.I mimic this fools game too much. Losing a few pounds would help.
I can agree with a lot of the things you say, in the end it's all speculation anyways. I might be hoping on the positive side, but I'm not being unrealistic. Unrealistic would be describing Tmac's athleticism as that of a "39 year old." I'll assume that was a joke. Right now he's not there, but physically he looks a heck of a lot better than he did in the preseason. I expect him to only get better with time, just like in 06-07 coming off injuries when he lead the team with 29 ppg over the duration of Yao's absence. Yeah a single play can end a career, especially in Tmac's case, but get real. You're jumping to "freak" events that are unlikely, and could happen to anybody. Not a good base of arguement. We're talking chronic issues here. I don't expect any significant problems from the knee/shoulder/back this season, but I'm not saying it's not possible. Tmac's best playoff games were in 04-05 yes, but you're lying to yourself if you think that's when he had his last good playoff game. Hell, even game 7 against Utah he had 29 and 11 in a losing effort...and don't argue losing means it wasn't a good game, because we lost 4 outta 7 against Dallas too. As for last postseason, he was a one man army (27 ppg) that carried the rockets through six games and damn near 7 with a little luck and a healthy rafer. That was on a knee that required surgery the next week. You might be right, he could get injured next week and be 70% for a while, but I think people have good reason to expect great things out of Tmac this season. Even if he's not what he used to be, he's a hell of a lot better than all but a few other teams can boast.
It's not his knee from what I can remember when we were on our 22 game winning streak and we played the Lakers we needed a 24+ point game from Rafer to win it. All that tells me is this year T-Mac punks out everytime he faces Kobe, plain and simple.
When I land with my right leg fully extended, my knee bends inwards (I jump with my left). I have to make sure I land properly now that I'm older because I weigh more than I used to. Its a small problem for me because I get sharp pains in my knee sometimes when I walk. It hurts the most when you come down on a stiff leg. I am sure T-Mac, and Landry have the same problem.
i dont understand how the threadmaker says tmac always plays like crap against the lakers. those looked like pretty darn good highlights to me.
am i the only one who thinks tmac plays better when he's guarding the other's team's best player? it seems to get him more involved in the game even if he's not getting his touches on offense, which makes him more alert for when he does get the ball. he guarded dirk in the 04-05 series and he used to always guard the opposing team's best wing back before we got battiier. the whole idea of saving him from having to play defense may be backfiring (either that or his decline is solely due to deteriorating health, which is entirely possible).
