4. How much of his All-Star past can Tracy McGrady regain? I watched McGrady work out with Arnie Kander for three days last week before McGrady returned briefly to Houston. (He’s due back in the gym Wednesday morning.) There are many more significant tests ahead of him, to be sure, but McGrady was moving effortlessly. If he was favoring his surgically repaired knee, I couldn’t tell. In talking with him and with a few people close to him, I’ll say this: I don’t know how close McGrady can get to the player he was three or four years ago, but McGrady and those who know him best believe that not only can he do it, he will do it. “He’s the steal of free agency,” one of them told me while we watched McGrady go through a non-stop 30-minute shooting drill under Kander’s direction. “He’s going to be an All-Star this year.” He told me that McGrady knew he was nowhere near 100 percent when he returned last season, but he wanted to return to see where he was physically. He said the same thing McGrady told me last week: That it’s “night and day” between last year with the Knicks and today as far as his knee is concerned. It’ll be fascinating to see what the Pistons have in Tracy McGrady once preseason games get here – and especially fascinating to see his preseason debut at Miami against a few pretty talented wing players from the Heat. http://www.nba.com/pistons/features/truebluepistons_100823.html it'll be just great watching tmac playing again, and hopefully healthy. hopefully, things are looking up for him now.
I dont know what to think of this guy anymore but i know chicago was definitely not impressed with him and his explosiveness and didn't even want to sign him to a minimum. so we will see
His body just can't hold up. He can look as good as ever right now, but once the rigors of the season kicks in, he becomes plato. Even that first game with the Knicks where he exploded, and everything after that was a dud pretty much.
Awesome, he's gonna kick arse once again! maybe he'll do a 13 in 30 again? minutes that is... 30 minutes.
i am going to call bull**** on this. he is like the boy who cried wolf. and i could care less what some guy thinks seeing him shoot around in practice, or what his friends say. yeah if it was a 3 on 3 halfcourt league the guy would be the man. his skills are there, and we know how much he talks about his belief in his ability. unfortunately the nba is a full court league and mcgrady can't make it up and down the court. he is quite possibly the oldest 31 year old in all of America. he is so feeble. i bet he can be in the 10 pts, 3 reb, and 3 assists club! and he might even play 55 games!!!!
Yeah. I'm sure he'll look awesome coming out of the gates but given time he'll start to break down again, either physically or mentally. That said, I still wish him the best.
you know how i know he is washed up? because the celtics and tcrap's old coach doc rivers didn't even want to take a look at him. and all they do is add every old player in the league. if he had anything left in the tank at all he would not have had to sign with detroit for 1.3 mil. the clippers didn't even want him after his workout
maybe none of this would have happened if he didn't search the country looking for any doctor willing to perform microfracture surgery on his knee, that did not need microfracture surgery. he ended his own career because he thought a magical procedure could make him play like he did when he was 24. he is worthless. every other day he says he is back in his prime. the last time the guy dunked in a game was the 2006 season
So... if McGrady does make a recovery.... how many people would welcome him back to Houston next season for the MLE?
Who knows? On one hand it's concerning that Chicago wasn't to interested. And then on the other, to be fair, didn't it take Amare like a year and a half-Two years, to really get back. It'll all be pretty easy to tell, once the season starts, just based on how Tracy moves. In NY he obviously was still kind of limping/running with a hitch. If this season all that turns smooth again.....he can be a pretty good player. But nobody is expecting a young Mac here. Come on.
against dallas .. tmac guarded dirk .. and averaged 30.7 ppg, 6.7 asg, and 7.4 rpg... its too bad he was never able to get us past the first round but he put some amazing numbers up ..
this is pure grade-a bulls***. do we really need to dig up all his comments about how he was 100% ready and back to his old self and the rockets were holding him back again?
yeah when you get a guy at age 25 you expect him to have more than 1 good year on us. he gave us 1 year where he was still in his prime and that was it he had some other decent years on us, but that was the only year that he was the guy we thought we were getting. he gave us 1 good year. woopti doooooo
