Hey everyone! i just wanted to get this topic going.
Im so excited to have tmac here, but quite frankly other than a few
allstar games i havent seen him play much.
can you guys tell me what sets him apart from lets say...
kobe?
is tmac really THAT good? what makes him so unstoppable as
opposed to pierce, carter and iverson?
your thoughts!
How is Tmac like Reggie? Their games are very different. Tmac can create his own shot and has a post game. He also can take it to the hole. Not only that he can handle the ball and distribute. Reggie is more like Rip Hamilton. If you think Tmac is like Reggie, are you also saying Rip is like Tmac?
TMac and Miller's style of play are completely different IMHO. Miller's more of a pure shooter whereas TMac possesses more of an all-around game. I'd put TMac in the same class as Kobe. He can shoot, dribble to the basket, and is a fairly efficient passer.
TMc takes over a game, acting as lead guard/break down the defense/get in the passing lanes/out muscle littler guys. He's Kobe without the bad edges, and nearly as great a player. TMc's personality at the press conference should have shown you he can be a joy to have represent the Rox on a very large stage!
Dang whats your obsession with Reggie Miller today? I honestly dont see any similarities. In fact their games are exactly opposite that of each other. Reggie comes off screens or shoots wide open jumpers. Tmac can cross over his man and take it to the hole, he can post up, he is a decent shooter, he is a decent defender, he can rebound, he can pass, and he can average 30 pts if he wants to. Reggie Miller might be the most clutch player of all time, but he is no better then Cat when it comes to offense. They both max out at about 20 ppg. There is a HUGE difference between averaging 20 pts and 30 pts.
Rip Hamilton is more of a Reggie Miller. Miller is all screens and shoot. He has no isolation abilities. NONE. T-mac on the other hand does.
I think you're joking about this.. But if not, I really don't see the similarities in their game. T-Mac is more out of the Kobe/MJ mold. Peja is a lot more like Reggie Miller, if you want to compare someone to him.
McGrady at his best has the most talent of anybody in the NBA...he can get his shot off at will and has the potential to be a lock-down defensive player. He has effectively expanded his game beyond the three point line, while still having perhaps the quickest first step in the game. I can't think of too many faster players that are so long, in any case...he has the wing span of an albatross, for Christ's sake. I think McGrady has a lot of the same skills as Kobe, but his drive isn't quite the same. While he may not be as fierce a competitor as Bryant, McGrady has better passing skills. Put it this way, the Rockets are lucky to have him. McGrady and Kobe are in the same tier as Duncan and Garnett, while Carter, Pierce and Iverson are a notch below. TMac's certainly a much more accomplished player than Reggie Miller ever was. Miller was a nice player for a long time, but he still depended on screens to get his shots off and didn't contribute much else besides scoring.
I don't thinl Iverson works as a comparison, as he's a unique type; bulk scorer built like a point, etc. Allen would be more in the same mold, but probably a notch below these guys. So, of the guys of similar types, first, by the numbers: Scoring: 1) Carter ( 23.8 ppg) 2) Pierce ( 23.2) 3) Bryant ( 21.8) 4) McGrady ( 21.8) Rebounding: 1) Pierce ( 6.5) 2) McGrady ( 6.4) 3) Carter ( 5.3) 4) bryant ( 5.0) Assists : 1) Bryant ( 4.3) 2) McGrady ( 4.1) 3) Carter (3.9) 4) Pierce ( 3.6) Outside Shooting: 1) Carter ( .386) 2) Pierce ( .356) 3) McGrady ( .354) 4) Bryant ( .331) Turnovers: 1) McGrady (2.19) 2) Carter ( 2.37) 3) Bryant ( 2.69) 4) Pierce ( 3.12) Steals: 1) Pierce ( 1.79) 2) Bryant ( 1.47) 3) Carter ( 1.33) 4) McGrady ( 1.32) Blocks: 1) McGrady ( 1.17) 2) Carter ( 1.04) 3) Pierce ( .86) 4) Bryant ( .62) Of course, there is more to it than numbers, and Pierce is probably,of the three, the closest to capping out his potential, as T-Mac and Bryant's stats are somewhat affected by coming out of HS, and Carter's by his 2 injured years, whereas Pierce, despite the stabbing incident, has never really had any significant in season negative factors re: his stats. Ok, if you assign a negative correlative value to each stat, and equal weight to each, the standings re: accumulated stats are...( math, ugh.)... 1) Carter ( 15) 2) McGrady and Pierce ( 17 each) 4) Bryant ( 20) Obviously, there's more to the thing than numbers, but with mcGrady, Carter and Bryant, you are talking about 3 of the, what, 5 or 6 most talented players in the NBA, all of whom, if they overcome the various complaints against them, could become the best player in the game. My own feeling about what seperates T-Mac is the general basketball sense he has. It's hard to describe, but it's there, and you'll know it when you see it. Carter has the most pure talent, and Bryant has accomplished the most in terms of winning, but Mcgrady, in my opinion, has the best feel for the game.
AB, McGrady is not at all like Reggie Miller......I am beginning to question whether you even watch the games. Of course you watch them from the front row, whilst the rest of us nobody's watch from the rafters !! Aren't you in Austin this week? DD
He's about an inch taller that Kobe, and TMac's attitude is much more likeable than Kobe's is, at least to me. I don't favor Kobe too much, not because of his performance, it's because of his attitude, cockiness, and all that goes with that.
this is according to ME: t-mac is just like kobe ..but he doesn't win games because he doesn't have a big guy inside like kobe have shaq....that's why he wanted to go somewhere with a big man so much
Yea, it's funny to me how people say how "great" Kobe is. I dont see him any better than TMac at all. He has greatly benefited from the play of Shaq plus he plays for the Lakers. Hell, Olajuwon would have been known as the greatest center of all time by the media if he played his career for the Lakers. Anyway, Tmac is the whole package. He can hit the outside jumper, create and make his own shot, get to the hole and finish, find open teamates regularly and play great all-around defense. Yes, I did say GREAT defense. He has put up as good of defensive numbers as Kobe in his career, which is saying alot when you consider he packed it in for the last 1-2 seasons on a horrible team. Same with assists. Everyone says how selfish he is, but he averaged just over 4 assists/game on a team with nobody. To compare, I think you take V. Carter, add more quickness, add a little better ability to create his own shot and better passing skills, and that is TMac. Or, just say he is a taller Kobe with a tad less flair in terms of putting up ridiculous layups in traffic. Just my opinion.
Everyone used to have arguments of who was better kobe or tmac. They said the only difference btwn them is that kobe has rings and kobe can play a lil better defens, while tmac can play a lil better offense. But they were always evenly matched when they faced each other. Kobe and tmac are in the same level with kg and duncan. Pierce and iverson are a lil below them and vince is around the francis level because he hasn't proved anything except that he can dunk and get hurt. AI plays like kobe and tmac except that he is way shorter and way quicker, thats the reason why he plays shooting guard is because his skills are similar to theirs. He can't shoot as well, more of a streak shooter. Pierce is a pure shooter (better than tmac and kobe) like reggie miller but he can goto the hole and dunk on people (not as fierce as kobe and tmac) Vince carter can;t shoot but can dunk better than kobe, tmac and pierce.
I really want to see how Kobe does without Shaq for a whole season. Let see how he does without many good role players and a true Centre. I really like Vince and people doesnt understand that Vince is a tremendous player playing on a very weak team with crappy role players. I mean TMac will be even better with Yao since they will both take advantage of one another. I'm pretty sure Vince Carter and TMac is a better player then Kobe or Iverson if they have Shaq or Yao on their team.
T-mac has a better pullup jumper, is better from beyond the Arch . kobe is a better passer, better dribbler, better at taking it to the basket. Kobe is a better defender, while T-mac is a better offensive player..
Id have to say, at least now, that Kobe has proved to be more clutch. Some of the shots he was making, especially at the end of this season, were very (dare I say) Jordan-esque. By that I mean you absolutely knew Kobe was going to take a big shot and you absoutely knew he was going to make it.
