OK - Off season boredom- Considering age and all who would you pick as the top ten players based upon ability, building around, and age. Put the guy ahead who you would draft today to build around. 1. TMac- Because I am a homer, Rocket fan + 'I believe' 2. Amare- He's a beast 3. Lebron- Can he get better- yes 4. T Duncan- healthy, just too solid on both ends (still has gas in the tank) 5. Kobe- If his head was right- he could dominate 6. KG- Why not he's not over the hill and he has the fire and the freakish play 7. D Wade- Yep- he's for real 8. Yao- If only he could hang for 40+ min/game 9. Shaq- Daddy just getting too old 10. Dirk- Ugghhhh I know, I hate the guy OK who did I miss?
It depends on how you define best player. MVP or best athlete? If I were to go with "carries his team"... I would rate as follows: 1. Lebron 2. Duncan 3. TMac 4. Nash 5. JKid 6. Kobe 7. KG 8. Dirk 9. Shaq 10. Artest
Since rhester said 'to build a team' around, I wouldn't take Nash or JKid. Too old and broken for me. I also don't see building a team around Artest. Personally, I'd don't think I'd take Shaq unless my goal is to win right now. If I'm building a team, Shaq's days are on the down stroke. I'd also take TMac over Lebron as he's more experienced, yet still young. Personally, I don't think Dirk is the kind of guy you can build a team around. He's great but I doubt he'll ever win a championship being the primary goto guy. So Kobe, KG, Duncan and Tmac are my finalists. Duncan slightly past prime. Kobe is a brat. KG or Tmac. Tough. Since we got him already, I'll take TMac.
LeBron haven't even carry his team to the playoffs in the east yet, I don't think he should be #1 on the list.
He's not the best player in the league, that title is held by Duncan, but you could make a strong case that he'll be the best player in the league this year. Actually, if I had to put money down, I would bet on McGrady winning the MVP this year. Here's why he's the frontrunner: At the end of the year, the MVP candidates are the best players of the top teams + the highest scorers in the league granted their teams make the playoffs. So we're talking about Miami, Indiania, Detroit, San Antonio, Houston, and although I don't consider them a top team anymore, just to remain objective Phoenix. So we're talking about a pool of O'Neal, Wade, J. O'neal, noone from Detroit, Duncan, McGrady, Nash, Stoudemire, and then if their teams make the playoffs, Iverson, Byrant, and Lebron James based on their gaudy scoring statistics. O'neal should continue to decline and his high scoring days are over but Miami will have a great record. Wade will again average around 23ppg having to share with Walker and Williams as well now. Jermaine O'neal has never had great statistics. Even in the highly unlikely even that Phoenix is great again this year, Nash will not be a candidate because his novelty act is over. 16ppg and 12apg (even though he won't avg that many again without his shooters) will not warrant MVP consideration. Stoudemire is another big question mark. Will Phoenix have a great record and more importantly will he score as many points down that teams will be able to double team him? This leaves Duncan and McGrady. Let's assume the Rockets win 56 games next year (which is being very, very objective considering they were on a pace to win 57 last year even with all of the early turmoil + the addition of Swift). We can also assume that McGrady will average 26ppg (which is also being very objective as he avged the same amount last year with the first month scoring 19ppg included). Unlike Stoudemire, Wade, and O'Neal, there's no reason to doubt whether he'll put up big stats again. He's always done it, and the offseason additions of Swift and Anderson aren't guys that will take away shots like Antoine Walker will. Assuming any of James, Bryant, and Iverson average 30ppg, neither of the three's teams will be upper echelon. So McGrady at a slightly lower scoring average trumps them due to the record. That leaves you with the best player in the league, Duncan, against McGrady. Duncan has never avged even 24ppg in his career, so I will put my money on T-Mac.
this thread is an example of how badly we need the season to start. this thread is stating the obvious. I blame not gettiny daily reccomended amount of rockets bbasketball this offseason
The only one that has proven to be the type of player to make his team-mates good enough to win it all is Duncan. Not to take anything away from anybody else, but Shaq and Kobe were a duo and they had good role players around them. T-Mac is an extraordinary athlete with a great iq for the game, as is KG, LaBron. Shaq and Yao dominate at their position. That's my tops and yes -- Kobe isn't on it. IMO
Tim Duncan is #1 no question. And I'm about as homer as they come! But how can you argue with his results?
The results are in the past. The future awaits. If we win the WC or give SA a stiff run for their money, the MVP will probably come down to Duncan or TMac. Thinking positively about the future, TMac is the best player in the league next year.
Here is my list just for the fun of it: 1. Duncan 2. KG 3. TMac 4. Dwade 5. Yao 6. Shaq 7. Lebron Other guys like Nash, Kidd is great for their teams but has no shot of being the best player in the league. Yeah, Kobe is not on it, a team killer should not be on the list because bball is a team sport.
I agree with you completely except on LeBron. He would tie T-Mac. T-Mac is the most talented player in the league based on skill and ability. The one thing he did too much last year was settle for outside jumpers, even when his shot was off. This year, if he is able to be more selective with his shots (because other players step up more often), he will be a top 3 MVP candidate no doubt. I look for Amare, LeBron & DWade (plus maybe KG) to be at the top with him.
He is my favorite player, he is very gifted. I think the "best" is a title reserved for someone who has taken his team all the way and is named MVP of the league. That would be Tim Duncan. As far as explosive and entertaining, the player I most enjoy watching play, TMac, hands down. I also really like D.Wade, this is who Steve Francis thinks he is (but isn't). I really like the fire of KG, and LeBron is amazing for his age. Kobe is such a jerk that it really does distract from his amazing skills. Shaq appears to be only a shadow of his former self and is just about finished. Ming has enormous potential but is very frustrating to watch. Artest is really, really good. Billups is a tough guard, I like watching him. I love watching Nash play, but since he left Dallas, Dirk is not nearly as much fun to watch.
luv TMac ...but if there was a giant pickup game with all the NBA players available and i had the first pick ... Shaq!
