Tmac and Yao were way better than Howard and Harden.

Look I love Harden and I think we are blessed to have such a phenom on our team. But Tmac and Yao were hall of fame talents. Howard is a good player but that just it. He's a good player. Harden has a debatable case but his running mate needs to be better if he wants to top that duo.

Harden and TMac are close, with TMac has slight edge due to defense. Howard is better than Yao by a large margin, even with current Rockets system.

That team didn't have much talent, but got a clear direction on what they should & wanted to do. This one has better talent, but has no idea what they should, or want to do.

    Coaching is the biggest problem.

So if everyone hates McHale and agrees that JVG and Adelman were better,

than how in this planet is Tmac a better Rocket than Harden? Tmac can't win with good coaches, gms, and hall of fame centers. And that's on the Rockets, nevermind Vince Carter, WHO IS STILL PLAYING TODAY.

    The answer is obvious.

    Harden. period.

I do not understand how Howard is better than Yao by such a large margin when

Yao dominated younger Howard when Howard was much more athletic and agile

than Rockets Howard in direct matchups

Yao is greater than current Dwight Howard, and it really isn't even close.

    • He would be at least a bonafide #2 options on offense
    • Get about the same rebounding numbers
    • would be much better defensively because he's more thoughtful on positioning and just simply takes up more space
    • is a better passer
    • has a higher b-ball IQ
    • wouldn't get as many stupid fouls and technicals out of frustration
    • would hit free throws
    • wouldn't get 1 or 2 goal-tending calls a game
    • was a better teamate
    • was more coachable

As for T-Mac and Harden. It's been a long time. Harden can be so dominate offensively...I really don't recall Tracy scoring near as efficiently as Harden does.

If Yao was on this team, a smart coach would make him the number 1 option.

That team had a better system, or know what they needed to do, but they just didn't have enough talent, or right players to get to next level. Just looked at the teams they lost to during those years, all of them were better.

Current team has no system, or at least not consistently run any system, but they do have better talent overall.

TMac and Harden are close based on their skill set & talent level. JVG's team tried to run most of their offense through Yao, Tmac was the 1B, or 2nd option most of the night. With Harden, he is the undisbuted #1 option, hence more offensive opportunities.

I'm not talking about 1on1 match ups. Yes, Howard had trouble when play against Yao, but he is a way better rebounder and defender. Yao has a much polished offensive game, but he was too slow to be much an offensive threat. Once the other team start fronting him, the Rockets basically gave up going inside completely.

No really. With the way every team tries to copy GSW's small ball, Yao would be luck to see much court time at all.

I really think the core of this team ranks up there with anyone. You have very good perimeter defenders in Bev & Ariz, inside defensive anchor in Howard. On offense, Harden is a monster, then Howard can give you 10pt+ working around the basket.

The individual talent is there, it's just a matter of figuring out a way to mesh them all together. No one said it's easy, but you get to keep working on it, not just give up after a year, or two.

Yao was easily the most like able and easy to root for and you could definitely get into arguments about which duo had the highest peaks, but injuries count.

If Bill Walton or Sampson or a whole **** load of other guys never had injuries they would be considered better than they are currently.

Harden and Howard are a better duo and to me it's not a tough decision.

Well said. There is no reasonable argument that can be made to say T-Mac was a better Player for the Rockets than Harden.

Conference Finals > First Round Exit

Crap thread with no thought. This year sucked, but Dwight and Harden obviously aren't in it together right now. There's no commitment to anything (future, winning, defense, each other, coaches, style of play, nothing)

Lottery pick > 1st round sweep ( from a team that doesn't even want to make the playoffs or like each other judging by their demeanor)

TMac broke down and was injured by the time the supporting cast came around. that 2007-2010 squad had a superior support cast with players that had the heart and the talent. Brooks, Scola, Lowry, Landry, Battier and Ron Artest for one season. Heck Ariza was there for one season but later McGrady found his way out....

I could see if you say Orlando Howard is slightly better but not Rockets Howard by rebounding numbers and so on.

Even with the injuries Yao has to be better than the Rockets version of Howard which is a very inconsistent version with flashes of brilliance.

Howard's Offense is just putrid and his D has taken steps back.
