Could JVG offensive system affect tmac? Obviously it affected Steve Francis. Could JVG offense be the Rockets problem? I really do hope VG takes a different approach for the offense. Whats everyones thoughts on this?
no, i don't think so. tracy is a whole lot better scorer. and will be expected to do so often, unlike steve.
McGrady can create better than francis theres no doubt about that i think McGrady will still get his 28 a game and Yao will increase his too just from all the attention T-Mac commands.
I really hope so...I think Yao is probably thinking he's got to step his game up aswell. Im looking forward to the new season.
If Tmac struggles in JVG's offense then JVG will be shown the door. If JVG cant maximize Yao and Tmac....then that is on HIM! The pressure will be on JVG to do well.
First of all Tracy is not the Typ to Force anything, he clearly lets the game come to him!. with Francis it was one circus shot after another. Also i could see Pick and rolls between Tracy and Yao, Ala Stockton and Malone!. Plus with Tracy you wont see many 3 on 1 fast breaks being blown due to bad descision Making!....Offcourse there is gonna be a period of Adjusment, bu once he grasps the full Concept of JVG h'll be a better player for it!.
Francis is a scorer, McGrady is a shooter. Francis is a rhythm shooter who has to dribble to get his "feel" for a shot. McGrady at 6'8" with long arms can stand flat-footed and raise up for a shot since most defenders are shorter. McGrady can effectively come off of baseline screens and raise up without a dribble. Francis can't. McGrady has some semblance of a stop and pop mid-range game. Francis has next to none and almost always tries to get a little closer to the basket, gathering defenders and requiring a circus shot. Bottomline is that McGrady is just a much more efficient player who doesn't need to dribble to get shots.
Actually, I think Francis did have a good midrange game. I thought that once he stopped using it, he became far less effective. For some reason, Steve got caught up more in drawing fouls than getting a good shot. But the midrange game was there.
This remains to be seen, but I think where Steve struggled the most last year was (1) against the zone, and (2) when the shot clock was winding down. It seems that McGrady is at his best in both cases...you beat a zone by (1) sharp passing, (2) good perimter shooting (3) attacking the basket, (4) finding the holes in the defense - McGrady's forte. Yao also struggled against the zone...especially when a 2nd defender would drop down, and slap the ball away...Yao was good for at least one TO per game on that exact scenario...It would frustrate the hell out of me... With McGrady and JJ on the perimeter, I don't see this happening...Yao will turn to the basket quicker with the confidence that only one defender will be there...if he draws the double team, a quick dish to an attacking McGrady will be the answer. McGrady probably won't win the scoring title next year, but I guarantee you he'll win 50+ games.
With this move. . . . How long is the Hook for JVG? 2 yrs . . .3 yrs? lifetime pass with the coming of T-mac with Yao [if we get barry] How long does JVG have to get us to the Championship round Western conference finals. . at least? Rocket River
I just don't see Tmac scoring his 28 ppg. JVG's offensive pace is just too slow for that. However, I think he could average between 23-25, which would be much higher than any player JVG has coached.
