I am not talking about promoting him to Starter but Everyone seems to think he simply is not starter material I did not think he was ridiculously horrible last year I did not think he was incapable of learning or improving I don't think we saw him at all this year. . . . What exactly makes him . . . NOT THE ANSWER? Are we saying he has no upside in year 2??? Rocket River
Is this not something that can come in time? Is it a situation that you are accurate or you are not? The same with reading defenses IS this not what Kubiak is suppose to be able to teach? Rocket River
Well actually we did see him fumble the first minute he was put in a game, can't exactly remember which one.
When I say he is inaccurate, I mean relative to people just starting out. Yates has had close to as many starts as Kapernick, and Kapernick is far more accurate a QB in my eyes. Also, it's not like last season was the first time Yates threw a football. He's been practicing his accuracy his entire life. What gets better over time in the NFL, is your decision making.
Nothing is wrong with him... Kubiak is extremely loyal to his QBs...and schaub knows that his job isnt in danger unless he gets hurt...bc there is no way that Schaub gets the Alex Smith treatment... Yates provides a bit more mobility, but if you think that Schaub is inconsistent...Yates is worse...im just hoping that Case Keenum pans out...and gets his arm strength up to par, bc the kid is a good QB...and extremely smart... Was Tom Brady waiting for plays to come into his headset?? no...he knows his team/offense and its strengths...Schaub after being in the league for this long...doesnt have the leeway to do what he needs to do without having Kubiak dictate it to him...TJ Yates follows that same mold...These guys arent impromtu...they need to be spoonfed on how to deal with a situation...
Even hurt. . .Schuab's starting position is never in danger I think the spoonfed part is more Kubiak than the QBs I think Kubiak is a bit of a control freak and does not want his QB out there freelancing. Inaccuracy could be a real killer. It is definitely a dealbreaker. If that is the case . .. why hold on to him at all? Rocket River
It's strange to me that the fanbase wants more and more from a guy like Casey who I just haven't seen anything extraordinary from, yet brushes Yates aside like a player just waiting to get cut. I still think Yates has the tools to be a playmaker in this league. We haven't seen enough yet to think there is anything wrong with him.
That is kind of the purpose of this thread People seem to be rather dismissive of TJ I want to know why Rocket River
- He knows the plays and system. - He's better than Keenum - He could get better - He has real game experience Not every backup QB is a superstar in waiting. Sometimes they are there for insurance.
TJ Yates...is just the back up in the wing...and unless he shows improvement in his accuracy and knowledge of the system, he still will be #2...thats just it... Im not about drafting for another QB...bc that wont help...Drafting another QB means you just made a mistake with the ones you do have...Schaub isnt going anywhere...and unless he is hurt...he will be that #1 atleast the next 2 years... TJ Yates has shown the ability to make significant plays when he was on the field...but showed us some major flaws as well...if and when he gets his next chance...he needs to prove his worth... This league is all about making a name for your self when you are on the field...Nobody wouldve even known who he was if Leinart didnt go down last season...TJ Yates made a name for himself and thats why he is still on the Roster this season...Based off what he did last season...Hopefully after 2 years of the system, he has made those improvement to his game and can step up when called upon...we wont know when that will happen, but it can happen at any time...and when he is called...he better deliver...
that's what really irks me about Kubiak. he's so damn rigid. i don't doubt that Schaub could run the offense on his own. it was frustrating watching Schaub put his hands up to his helmet for 15 seconds waiting for a play call.
Yates is just not the answer. He doesn't pass the eye test. Schaub's football IQ isn't all that. That play on third and 5 when he threw the ball away for no reason was infuriating. I wouldn' trust him to audible at the line. Also, the play where he lost control of the ball shows his lack of fundamentals outside the pocket. Run with the ball with two hands on it, gather yourself and throw the ball with accuracy.
But when have you seen him play? A rookie season and some meaningless preseason games playing alongside backups?
Hard to say unless you've watched him extensively in practice this year. That said, the limited exposure we saw of him on the field wasn't particularly good. His fumble against Minnesota and interception against Green Bay were both caused by a distinct lack of awareness. Couple that with his tendency to throw high, and you have to worry if he's too turnover-prone to be a legit NFL starter. After all, there's a reason he was a fifth-round pick. Of course, it's not unheard of for a late-round pick to develop. If he's looked legit in practice, he does have some nice skills and is worth considering. His mobility and improvisation ability were pretty impressive as a rookie, and he does have a big arm. But the odds are decidedly against him.
