It doesn't seem to matter if Case is ALL WORLD or just mediocre
    Whether the Texans draft a QB or not . . . .

at the end of the day . . . I don't see TJ being on this team next year

What is his contract like? Cap hit?

He was a 5th round pick who is still on his rookie contract.

They just cut a 3rd round pick this year.

That should tell you how "easy" it is to get rid of him.

I think he is a goner. I see the Texans drafting a QB in the draft, and showing TJ the door. He will always have a special place in the history of the Texans, but I just don't think he will stick around.

If the Texans draft a QB, yeah, probably. If they don't? Well, you still need a backup QB.

What tab? It says there would be no dead money if we cut him after this year. This is the NFL. Players are only guaranteed to make, well, their guaranteed money. And as a 5th round rookie, TJ had no guaranteed money in his contract. Contracts can be structured where it hurts to cut them before a certain point, but that doesn't look to be the case with TJ. There are lots of times when you can just cut a guy without owing him any more money and without him counting against the cap. And even if we were responsible for the part of his signing bonus that got spread out, it's less than $50K. Hardly a reason to keep a guy on the roster if you don't want him.

Career backup if he's lucky. I don't think much of him.

Keep him, cut him, whatever. As Nick said, it's not as if the money will be a factor.

I figured if they don't draft one . . .they will bring in new folx to compete

I think if Kubiak is gone . . . he is definitely gone

I don't think highly of his chances of catching on anywhere else either

I think it's kind of funny that during the preseason, people were talking about how both Case and Yates could start for 1/3 of the teams in the league (1/2?) and that we should trade Yates for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. And now people question him as a backup and his ability to catch on with another team.

Well, those people were ridiculously jaded at the beginning of the season as to what sort of player can get you a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Case wouldn't fetch a 2nd or 3rd round pick ever... even if he keeps up this level of production for the rest of the season.

He had one chance to show how good he was and he blew it. I'll be suprised if he ever gets a job as a back up.

Do you realize some of the names that are actually backups in this league? Guys with much less game experience than T.J. (even if his results were mostly mixed/mediocre).

Quick... name the backup QB's for Stafford, Ryan, Manning (x2), Palmer, R. Wilson, A. Luck, A. Smith, P. Rivers, C. Newton.

I'm a pretty avid football fan, and big-time fantasy football player, and I would have no clue about any of the above backups without having to look them up.

T.J. Yates will probably catch on somewhere.

I highly doubt your casual non-Texans NFL fan knows who TJ Yates is.

That pick six cost him dearly. He might be the starter right now and getting a new contract this Summer if not for that pick six.

Maybe... but at least he's started a handful of games, along with two playoff games.

More than could be said from that laundry list of nobodies above. I'm sure a lot of those teams would rather have Yates instead of the stiffs they're having to throw out there once their QB's got injured.

Our offense is based on the West Coast scheme. Almost half the league runs some version of the West Coast.

Other popular systems in the NFL are the Air Coryell and Erhardt-Perkins, but the West Coast is much more common.
