Fresno State: A talented player who is expected to have a bright future in the Bulldog program … one of the premier high school players in the nation as a senior … can penetrate and score off the dribble … can create mismatches with his size … signed a letter of intent in the spring of 1999. (1999-00) Sat out the season to satisfy NCAA eligibility requirements.

High School: A first team All-CIF selection ... ranked in the top 10 of national recruiting lists as a point guard and shooting guard ... during the 1998-99 season he averaged over 20 points a game and eight rebounds per contest ... scored 13 points and had 10 assists in the Dada All-Star Classic ... a member of several all-tournament teams throughout his career ... moved from the two guard spot to the point last season … recruited by Michigan, UConn and UCLA.

Notice, though, there are no knee injuries here to mention.

Randy Livingston could have been an all-star if not for the injuries. Livingston was as quick as lightning. What a shame for him. But, that's life.

Maddox had some impressive numbers at fresno State. He averaged 13 points and 8 assists 5 rebounds his freshman year.

I agree that Maddox will be a decent pro, but the HS accomplishments usually don't mean all that much.

Shawn Bradley was a pretty good high school player. The USA Today came out with the best things of the past so many years a few months ago.

    Look how he turned out

Personally, I was hoping they would pick Pedras Savovic at # 37, but Tito had good workouts and his value was moving up closer to draft time. I guess the Rockets felt they had enough foreign talent for one day. If Maddox pans out, the Rocket think tank looks Einsteinish. If not, no big deal. We still had the best draft overall. Savovic can still sign as a free agent....with someone and he will.

Speaking about Randy Livingston....he was a gifted player. and had the injuries not slowed him, he could have gone on to great things. He carried LSU into the NCAA 64 team playoff. I was glad to see him as a Rocket however brief and background.

Savovic is a good shooter and 6'6".
Maybe if Oscar goes elsewhere the Rocks can sign Peja and he can back-up Cuttino.

Randy suffered career threatening injuries that ultimately ruined his abilities.

Tito was poor and took money/gifts from recruiters which ruined his college career - not his abilities. Plus Randy never put up the numbers that Tito did.

Randy Livingston is still in the League as a capable back-up guard.

Bradley, despite being an ungainly stiff - is still in the league as a capable back-up.

EXACTLY, alot of HS stars are just kids way overhyped with little fundamentals and a bunch of flash. I'm not saying Tito is bad, but being a top 10 guard in HS doesn't mean a thing. KEEP TIERRE...

ok, livingston might have been a bad example. but my point was being a top10 HS player usually means jack. having "top 10 HS PG player" on your credential is nothing to awe over. if his resume said "top 10 college player", then we're talking. its like al bundy getting 4 touchdowns in the city champoinship game. what happened to him? that was a bad example too, but i had to throw in a bundy reference.. :)

I might have to disagree about keeping Tierre until I can see this kid play. It would be nice to have a big point guard coming off the bench to spell Francis or Cat. I like Tierre's hustle but from what I hear this Tito guy is a pure point guard.

people, you have to look at this photo of Tito Maddox...

He looks exactly like ICE T so that is a possible nickname for the rookie. Check out the link for the ICE T look alike of the Rockets.

I am getting off topic, but Married... With Children was one of the best shows of the decade, along with the Simpsons.

And Tierre isn't a pure point guard? Tierre can shoot better for sure but looks to pass first and has great handles as well. It's not just the hustle...the tempo increases and magically more fast-breaks occur when Tierre comes in...It's not a coincidence

I'll be disappointed if they replace Tierre with Tito, but it's not like I don't like Tito. He can't shoot worth crap and makes more turnovers than any of our 3 PGs, BUT he gets alot of assists and can handle nice. Just because he's 6'4 doesnt mean he can play SG like Cat though. His D isn't something that would particularly strike you...but this is a 3rd string PG so who cares? I just don't want anyone to seriously think Tito should be taken over Tierre because he can play 2 positions. That's complete BS...

Tierre is gone, the Rocks will keep Maddox. A ton more upside. It's a shame Tierre was at the draft party and saw his replacement drafted.

    and so wasFelipe Lopez.

BTW, Tierre seemed very respectable as a 3rd string Pg; Maybe Moochie will be gone next year.
