If it is one thing i could change about myself it would be the fact that i always sleep in and cant seem to wake up early consistently.. I wish i was and early bird, and with school and work i need to be. Anyone have any tips or been through this and successfully changed? Your feedback is appreciated
Get off caffeine. Granted, I take the stuff intravenously, but when I do quit for periods of time, I wake up earlier.
My iPhone alarm is pretty much all I need... I have that "alarm" chime and that thing just wakes me up every time I need it to. Other things I try is not eating at night (even though that maybe something bad, it works for me)...
Either sleep earlier or have an alarm with a sound you don't like. (with volume up to the max) For example, you could try to screeching (chalk board) sound.
1) avoid eating late. it's harder to sleep well when your body has to digest food. 2) avoid exercising late. it usually takes me 3 hours to go to sleep if i work out after 9pm 3) don't take afternoon naps obviously 4) keep yourself busy during the day/if you have a job, it won't be too hard to knock out at night
Put the alarm clock on the opposite side of the room. And leave the blinds/curtains open. If you keep the room dark I can hibernate all winter.
*construct your sleep period to be a multiple of 90 minutes. this way you won't be waking up during an REM period. waking up to your alarm during REM leaves you groggy and irritable. *dim all lights 2 hours prior to bed to lower cortisol levels and induce melatonin. *wake up at the same time every day, even weekends, to establish your circadian rhythm. if you sleep in on weekends, you will disrupt the rhythm and will feel like crap again on monday. it typically takes 7-10 days for the body to readjust to a new sleep routine. after this period, you will find yourself naturally waking up by yourself at around the same time every morning. *don't eat a large meal prior to bed. *consume a small snack of slow-acting protein (casein) immediately prior to bed. when you sleep, your body is in starvation for those 8 hours and so naturally you are tired upon awakening. most bodybuilders consume cottage cheese prior to bed for these similar slow-acting protein benefits. *change your diet. though i won't elaborate here as i doubt you have the discipline for this. *exercising in the afternoon lowers the body temperature by night sufficiently to induce sleep. taking a hot shower at night has the same effect. conversely, exercising in the morning is probably the best way to jump start your metabolism.
good advice, maybe even have two alarms, thats what I used to do. Once you get older and have kids you won't even need an alarm
put a loud alarm across the other side of your room or in another room. You will have to get out of bed and walk over, it should wake you up
I haven't tried this, but I read it about a week ago: How to Naturally Reset Your Sleep Cycle Overnight It works because, Well, at least it works with small rodents... gl!
Its not hard to wake up early. I am sure you do it consistently. But actually being alert, coherent, and productive... I think you have to be inclined for it. Some people are just more creative at night.
How many hours of sleep do you usually get? My body is somewhat conditioned to get 6-7 hours since I go to bed around midnight and wake up around 6. If I go to bed at 10pm, I can usually count on waking up around 4am, since my body is accustomed to waking up after 6-7 hours. If you can make yourself go to bed earlier, you should be more able to get up earlier. I also use two alarms, one electric that starts soft and gets louder, and the other is a big wind-up that scares the crap outta me if I wind the ringer up enough. The big boy gets set about 20 minutes after the electric one. It's also a good backup if the power goes out.
Get enough sleep. Set your alarm on your phone and then put your phone on the other side of the room - having to get out of bed to turn it off makes you get up.
