I want to win this thing. I have 2 days to get ready. I've never really participated in a race like this before. There are around 250+ participants. Any experts here want to give advice on how to win this thing? Like how I should pace myself? I think I'm at a slight disadvantage because I don't have running shoes... I'll be wearing my Air Jordans. Should I sleep a lot the day before? Or go to the gym and do treadmill? Anything in particular that I should drink? Eat? Much appreciated, thank you.
First I'm not an expert, but wanna give my 2cents. 2 days are a small frame, but let's see. If the Jordans have enough bounce you should be good, otherwise your feet will hurt and you will get tired pretty soon. Sleep your 8h the day before the race. Don't run long distances now as you're close to the race and it will only wear your body out. Treadmill is a good way to condition yourself a bit, but don't do it too long. Drink a lot of water or iso drinks(Gatorade or what you like) before the race. Eat some of these power bars. Don't drink or eat stuff with too much sugar, it will hurt your endurance and energy level. Same with red meat. Best would be poultry and vegetables. Wear long clothes if it's too cold, otherwise your muscles will get stiff. Hope that helps a bit.
Sprint as fast as you can for the first 200 meters then stop and wait for the rest to catch up, when they get close sprint another 200 meters and just keep repeating this over and over......I'm sure you will win.....good luck.
And about the pacing, don't run too fast, but don't run too slow. You have to find a good pace between slow and fast, otherwise you'll wear out. Find a good pace and breath the right way(rather slow and deep instead of fast), otherwise you gonna have these ugly side stitches that will mess you up. Try to feather your steps all the time instead of pushing hard.
I can give you tons of tips but lets be honest...the fact that you've never done this before and the race is in 2 days is going to negate most of my tips. The only thing you have going for you is it's a 3k race which is pretty short...but on the downside it's long for someone who doesn't run. Bottom line is you can't prepare for this in 2 days. I'll narrow this down to 2 tips 1) You should hydrate yourself well the day before the race especially if it's hot but limit the water intake somewhat before the race. 2) Extend your stride to a point that feels comfortable. Now if you are going all chips in to win, you have to stay with the lead pack. Not the rabbit (someone who sprints out the first 500+m then falls back), but there will usually be a group running a nice pace...you have to stay in the pack (top 5ish). Then you just hope that you have enough gas in your tank left to take them in the end when it becomes a 200m dash. But if you do have a runner in this group of 250+, they will look like the rabbit and you won't be able to hang with them.
Is this a "fun run" or a real race? This is a little over 1.8 miles. How fast do you think you should run it? If there are folks in this race who have run these types of races before, then they will easily do this in under 10 minutes.
If you've never really run before, honestly the best advise I can offer is don't overdo it. I understand wanting to win, and even though a 3k is a short distance, it's not worthing popping a hammy or pulling a calf over because you didn't give yourself enough time to prepare. Eat a nice balanced meal the night before and a light breakfast the morning of, properly hydrate (but don't go overboard). Make sure that when you run, you're striking the ground with the balls of your feet and not your heel. Don't hurt yourself. Good luck.
How old are you, how tall are you, how much do you weigh, when was the last time you ran for 10+ minutes straight.
First off, you aren't going to win the race. No matter how good you think you have trained for the past two days there will be someone else who has been training for at least a month and usually a year. Unless these people are from Special Olympics or are little children you don't have a realistic chance of winning. Second, you can run in Air Jordans but you will need some sort of running shoes if you ever want to take running seriously. Sorry for bringing the darkside spirit and being so blunt. I would rather show up realistic at the race, then to be dissapointed at the end of it.
Two days to practice? Don't have running shoes? Already thinking of winning? You should be hoping that you don't hurt yourself.
Why should someone strike the ground with his balls? This guy asked for real tips, don't play jokes on him.
Forget you, if there's a cash prize I'm in! I've been training since the Rocket's Run. Nah, just kidding. Good luck.
Since it is so short, the best advice would be to warm / loosen up your legs with a casual 2 mile jog beforehand. Stretch before and after.
Even if you make some sort of a deal with the devil, if there is a Kenyan/Ethiopian in the race, you are not going to win. Conversely, if you are Kenyan/Ethiopian, you will win, even if you have Timberland Hiking boots on.
Say you have HIV, cut yourself and make a blood line across the whole starting line. No one will dare to walk over it. And act really crazy while doin it.
Eat something high in Carbs the night before, spaghetti works great. Eat meals with protein the day of but stay away from any lactose. Then 30 minutes before do about an 8 ball of cocaine.
