Do you tip when you retrieve take-out or buy food through a fast food joint that is not drive-through? Examples: - Picking up food at Cafe Express or Barnaby's. They have a tip jar. Do you put anything in it? You pay with credit card. Do you put a tip on the receipt? - Buying food at Subway. They have a tip cup/jar. Do you put money in it? If you do, why do you do it? Obligation because there's a jar there, or do you feel that they deserve the extra $1 or whatever you put in there? If not, why not? Was preparing your sandwich or food not worth the tip?
I don't tip when I pick up food, but I do tip when I goto Tampico and buy snowcones. mmmmmm snowcones are so good.
Here's another question, do you tip pizza hut when they charge a $ 2.5 delivery charge? The other day I ended up paying $25 for pizza that were on coupon priced at $16.99.
I do not TIP when picking food up because when I go to a resturant I tip based on the service I recieved not the food. If i'd be tipping on the food then I'd tip the chief not the waiter. It may sound snobby but honestly there getting paid to make a sandwhich besides that what else do you do unlike a resturant who constantly is helping with the dining experience.
You could make an argument for it, though. Folks at places like Chilis only hand you a bag and take your case. Folks at Subway/Chipotle actually prepare your food as well. Technically, they do more work.
Disagree, my friend is a waiter and he bust his behind on individual tables because while Subway/Chipotle make your food on the spot it only takes a total of maybe 2 minutes tops and waiters are constantly having to come over and provide service in a timely manner even though your not the only person he is serving at the same time.
Im from the old school. I believe you tip for 'good service' and not because its expected. Over the years tipping has become expected, and many feel you should tip because servers/bartenders dont make a large hourly wage. However the reason they dont is because their employer thinks it will encourage them to do their job providing good service, and therefore will make money via tips. I view good service as re-filling drinks, taking away dirty plates in a timely manner, checking up to see if you need anything; extra napkins, condiments, etc. Fast food and take out, hardly offer the chance for a worker to add service or care to your meal. Therefore I say no tip. However, with curbside to go, I believe there is room for tip, once you check your meal, and perhaps if the car hop is hot. btw, a pet peeve of mine is when you go to fast food and they ask you to 'pull up around front and i will bring it out to you'. That aint fast food.
Right. Being a waiter is definitely something worthy of a tip, but just handing a take-out bag to someone? I dunno...
I'd say yes. I don't think that $2.50 goes to the person that drove to your house and delivered the pizza to you, so if you don't tip, they don't get anything. They should get something!
I tip any time the food is prepared in front me, for example Quizno's / Subway and alway at Chipotle where I am a regular so the ladies add a bigger chunk of guacamole in my bowl.
I've been tipping at subway, a few bucks, if they prepare it quickly but don't usually tip at fast food places. Don't really do take out so I have no idea.
