I got service with Time-Warner about 2 weeks ago, and I love i-Control. Problem is it rarely every works. About 95% of the time I try to access it I get a time out message or something saying it can't retrive the program listings. The digital receiver is one a dedicated cable line and has a strong reception, and all of the other digital channels such as HBO work great so that shouldn't be the problem. What gives? Is i-control just sketchy? I got it to work last night for the first time since Friday.
It's a good concept and I really think/hope they are still working out bugs in the software. You're right that it isn't reliable most of the time and a bigger selection of free channels and free programs would be nice, make it more like TIVO where if I miss something I could go back and watch it later. As it stands the newest shows usually aren't listed at all not to mention soem of my most watched channels are not even on there.
I have it here in Austin, and had a lot of problems when I first got it. Call their service line (they're pretty good, amazingly enough) and they can help. I've found that if you unplug the input (I think that's right, at least I know which thingy to unplug!) from the back for about 3 minutes (turn off the box first) and then plug it back in, it reboots the box. You will have to wait a few minutes until the time displays again. Then try it. T/W's people can send a signal to your box that might do the trick if that doesn't, or you may need to do both. Good luck! I haven't had a problem in a long time, although it can be a bit slow accessing i-control sometimes. They're starting to have letterboxed versions of some of the i-control movies now. I hope they add more channels and make that an option for all the movies. It'd save me some trips to Hollywood Video. Letterboxed flicks is the only way to see a movie, imo.
I called them last week on an unrelated problem, and they sent a signal to rest my box. It has also been unplugged several times, and nothing has helped. At least it's a free service or I'd be pissed.
I have the HBO package and there are times when every other HBO channel will have problems. Channels 444, 446, 448 will be fine but 445, 447, 449 will cut in and out.
You may have a bad box. Call them up and tell them to replace it. They will, with no charge. It could also be a problem with the "router" (whatever they call it) that your line comes from and that sends lines to some homes around you. That turned out to be a problem one time for me. They replaced something there. Keep bugging them, and tell them you want something knocked off your bill, or you're switching to satellite!
I ad the same problem also. They said that they would send a signal to reset the box. after about 5 calls, they sent a service man out to diagnose the problem. This was about two months ago. He took some data from the box and everythoing checked out. The problem was in the code at the Company end of the Cable line. I have only had 1 problem with it. I love video on demand. Cartoon Network/PBS for the kids = win!!! Skinemax after dark = win Win win situation!!!
Well it is an old box. I was surpsised when the guy hooked them up because it's the same model box I've had for 3+ years with my old provider, and I know they've been updated.
