Source: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/6199120.html Does this new policy have any effect on parking when going to Rockets games? Meters are not monitored after 6 PM and on Sundays...right?
What an incredibly stupid law. I thought they were trying to encourage people to spend more time downtown...not less. Nice forward thinking there, Houston City Council.
they are trying to keep people from parking in one spot all day. For instance 2 hours is enough time to eat out, but not enough to go all day or half day shopping which a person should get a parking spot for.
Of course it is. They even incorporate the budget on these things on the fines. It is about nothing but money.
How does the government ensure that it continues to generate revenue? By making stupid laws, and then fining citizens ridiculous amounts of their hard-earned money when they don't abide by their stupid laws. Unfortunately, in a recession, I'm afraid we are going to start seeing more and more of these types of things. We'll also start seeing many, many more cops on the road trying to catch speeders. The government is a non-producing sector of society, therefore they HAVE to do these types of things to sustain themselves. I actually work with someone who is affiliated with City Council, and he's talking about how they are trying to levy a tax for the amount of drainage water that runs off your house when it rains. Can you believe that?? They take the surface area of your roof, and then tax you accordingly, because their assertion is that they shouldn't be responsible for the water that runs off into their piping based on something Mother Nature created. Un-freaking-believable.
Uh, Downtown Hopper is not enough? Then why the hell would you buy it? Glad I graduated from STCL (across street from Toyota Center and House of Blues) in December. My guess if you have a downtown hopper they may not give you a ticket but if they did I bet you can fight it.
so if i park my car for 2 hours in one spot, and there's a spot open directly in front of me or next of me, i need to move to that spot or get ticketed? ****ing dumbasses.
The main thing that concerns me is parking for Rockets and Astros games. As long as I know I can park there after 6pm on weekdays and free on Saturday and Sunday then I'm ok. Not saying I agree at all with this. I really think this will cause less people to venture downtown and end up hurting the business owners, but will generate more money for the city. The way I see it, as long as you are paying for the parking spot then you should be allowed to park there. Now people will try to get in an out even faster, so instead of putting additional money in the meter and enjoying their stay they will leave. I really don't see how they have an argument saying this is an advantage to the public in any way whatsoever. Pugs
I'm going on a hunch that other big cities already do this as Houston seems to be behind the times and likes to copy other big cities. Whatever, doesn't affect me, I hate downtown.
What a bunch of dumb ****s. I usually get the downtown hopper and move around. But once in a while my car will be parked for more then a couple of hours in one spot. These stupid ass meters don't work half the time. Some meters can't read a credit card. Some meters don't have working screens. Some meters are out of paper. So it still takes your money and you are screwed. The people writing the tickets are ****ing morons as well. These idiots are barely able to read. I would have a freakin ticket stub on my dashboard and they will hand out a citation anyways. Also, this has been pissing me off for quite a while. But why the hell are the traffic lights in downtown not synchronized anymore?!?!?!?!?! It takes 15 min to get from one spot to another spot in downtown now.
The traffic lights are actually an improvement because now you can get a whole bunch of green light's in a row. I also think it safeguards people from getting a bunch of red light's in a row as well.
ummm...no Up until a year ago if you were stopped at light in downtown you could see all the lights in front of you turning green at the same time. That way you can get quite far before having to stop again. Now its totally random. So you constantly have to stop.
Yeah my dad worked for METRO back in the 90's, and he said it was timed so that you could drive at a certain MPH (like 25 or 30) if you started at a green and make it through all the rest of the lights. Not sure what the situation is now but....etc.
From what I know, that's what it is right now... Up until about 1 year ago, when one turned green they all turned green on that same row, which is obviously not as efficient.
