Even as we debate on a daily basis the merit and justifications for the War in Iraq, I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are proud of our soldier's sacrifice and dedication. They are over in that hellhole doing their best and giving up their freedoms to defend ours. While you and me sleep warm and comfy in our homes, they are sleeping in tents always worried about surviving the next day.

My sister is in the US Army and while she is not in Iraq yet as she is almost done with her basic training, her MOS provides a very high likelyhood that she will be sent over there.

I just read about Time naming the US Soldier as their "man of the year and I wanted to take the time to honor our soldiers during this holiday season and let them know I truely appreciate their work and hope everyone stays safe from harm.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all our brave soldiers here and abroad. Thank you for all you've done for us.

Time's writers must have taken a year off.

I respect what the troops are going through, but come on.

So who would you have preferred? Sounds like a good choice to me.

I agree. Troops are important people every year, not just this year in particular.

It's a US magazine. Not to mention, the international versions may be different.

US soliders are special because they volunteer! And it's not just about fighting the war, even though that is probably why they got the recognition this year. It's about them standing a line and protecting not just you and me, but all our allies wherever they are needed around the world. Sure there are some that are in it for the free education and for some it's honestly the best way out of a bad environment. But no one is forced to serve and when they are called to action they go.

The Iraq war and occupation is certainly the story of the year. I guess it seemed a bit too much to give it to the war starters, Bush and Blair, after all their lying. Sadam was the other major player, and he is not deserving of much, though I guess guys like Hitler have been the man of the year before.

The soldiers who had to go to war needlessly are a worthy choice. I would opt for the 10 million people who protested the war internationally on one day-- the greatest protest in history. It is much more newsworthy in terms of being historic than soldiers going to war. I is good, however, to see that the perpetrators of the war did not get any additional spin out of the mess.

Perhaps a joint award for the citizens who were ordered into war under false pretenses and those who protested their going would have been appropriate.

10 million people WORLDWIDE isn't significant enough to even get a blip in world history books. The vocal minority.

The 10 million protestors represented the overwhelming majority of world opinion. Worldwide, Israel and the US were I believe the only countries where polls showed majority support for the war. As you recall, even most of the small coalition that went into war with the US, had very strong majorities against the war.

First of all, Aussies and Brits are not forced into service.

Second, this is the same "American" magazine that made Hitler its man of the year, and Einstein the man of the century. So the choice should not be restriced to American people.

Anyway, it's just patriotic laziness on the part of the writers.

Pilot who survived cancer, battle shown in 'Black Hawk Down' one of nine copter crash victims
By Mitch Stacy, Associated Press, 1/9/2004 21:42

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) An Army helicopter pilot who had survived cancer and a battle in Somalia depicted in the film ''Black Hawk Down'' was among nine soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq, his family said Friday.

Chief Warrant Officer Aaron Weaver, rebounding from testicular cancer, could have stayed put at Fort Bragg, N.C., when his unit shipped out to Iraq last year. But that wasn't like him.

Weaver, 32, of Inverness, had worked hard to get himself back into shape after cancer surgery in 2002, and got a special medical clearance to fly his OH-58 observer helicopter in Iraq, his father, Mike Weaver, said Friday.

I can see it now in big letters: 10 MILLION COWARDS. Who gives a ******* what a bunch of wussie Euro-socialists think of our foreign policy? I sure as hell do not. Out of 8 or 9 BILLION people on Earth, that group of liberal, limpdick, rabble-rousers is navel lint. They are only a "vocal" minority because the news media thrives on covering protests, no matter how insignificant or senseless they are. Most in the crowd were America-haters who love to see us get knocked down a peg or two. These people performed those idiotic die-ins for chrissakes!

American soldiers are absolutely People of the Year. There should be no doubt about that.

They're risking their lives -- and dying by the hundreds -- over there. I hope they come home soon.

It's just an ephitet and an accurate one that describes these whackoes. I know my own status, I have two kids and my wife is a very satisfied lady.:D I'm just amazed that someone would want a bunch of cowardly America-haters to be the "person of the year." These people want us to go down and that doesn't bother you? These people want us to subordinate our national defense to the UN so every time that we are attacked, we have to go the UN for a "Mother may I" and this still doesn't bother you?

What kind of American are you who sits there and constantly whines and cries about our foreign policy as if WE are the ultimate evil in the world? All this moral relativism you liberals cling to makes you unable to even care if we win this war on terror. I hung back from the D & D forum for a while largely because I got sick of this crap. Why do you guys hate America? Why do you want us to act like a bunch of p*****s and just let these barbarians destroy us? Sitting here doing nothing because it would be "unilateral" and "brutal" is the exact stupid attitude that is going to be the death of us. I don't give a damn why these Jihadists do what they do. All I care about is seeing them sliced to ribbons and fed to the dogs. I'm glad we didn't have "real" Americans (It is noble to protest! Dissension is good! ) like you back in WWII. We'd all be speaking Deutsch and my native tongue and live in a vast, paranoid Nazi police state. You people make me sick.
