I don't think they're really adversting this very hard..just saw a very small text link on the bottom of their website.
Must be a small trial run before the full roll-out. I know some other folks were waiting for this to happen.

Anyway, I called them up and if you already have digital service, the DVR service is only $5/month with a one time $19.95 setup fee. Technically the box itself is also $7/month, but that is negated if you just turn in your existing digital box.

Sounds like a great value since tivo's are around $200 and a subscription is in the $13/month range.

Mine is getting installed on Friday. Too bad I didn't know about this last week when those old Rockets games were on at 2am on NBA TV.

I was going to come start this thread but you beat me to it. I got an email from their customer service telling me it is available staring yesterday 8-30. I'm going to pick my box up tonight to avoid the $19.99 installation. :)

Oh and if you have HD it records in HD. Make sure you get the HD DVR box (or at least that is what I was told.

    Now Timewarner... how about ESPNHD.

How many hours of programming can one have saved? TWC records the shows you want off-site (ie not on a HDD in the DVR box), right?

Sadly, my cable company is likely decades away from offering this kind of service.

I did get a ReplayTV DVR not too long ago, and I love the thing.

I've had this for about a month now on TWC San Diego and I love it. The interface sucks compared to TIVO, but you can record two HD channels at the same time and watch a third recorded show. It is really nice, but definitely has some flaws compared to TIVO.

As far as recording, it records on a hard drive internally to the box ... the HD recorder records about 100 hours of SD TV or 22 hours of HDTV.

If DVR is what you want, and you have a southern exposure, TiVo (aka "DirecTV DVR powered by TiVo") is much nicer, and cheaper to boot ($50 buy-in, $4.99/month).

Last time I checked on Dirct TV I had to buy my own HD box for HD programing (no thanks) and the Tivo they offered didn't record HD programing. I think I'll stick with Time Warner who doesn't require my purchasing equipment.

*as a side note I was staying at my brother in laws house and he has direct tv. It started raining in the middle of the game and the TV said it was searching for a signal. It didn't come back on for about 30 mins. Does this happen often? If it does I'll stick with my cable, it always works.

Oh, great. Something else I'm gonna have to get from TWC.

    Memo to self:

    Order TWC DVR service

    Order TWC Digital phone service.

All I need now is for TWC to get into the electricity and water business then I'll be down to just one bill.

Interesting that it is $5 a month.

Here in San Antonio it is $10 a month!

If may have changed, I'll have to check. I might as well call them to pay my over due cable bill and kill 2 w/1.

TW just sticks you with a monthly rental fee. I'd rather pay the $50 and never think about it again. YMMV.

As far as "rain fade," it happens, but I can count the number of outages this year on one hand. Definitely not the case with cable.

I'm in for a Friday install.

I signed up for TW home security too. It's only 12.99 compared to my Brinks 26.99 service. The equipment install is $149 so it will be 10 months before I actually start saving money. But it will look like I'm getting DVR and actually lowering my total monthly bills.

Dammit, we moved right before summer and my dad decided to switch to Dish Network. Can't even watch tv when it rains. I miss my Time Warner.
