Coming from someone who doesnt really like the Spurs, I was a little sad at their play . I thought they would put up more of a fight. Do you think the Spurs should blow up the team and start over with Tony Parker and Tim Duncan?

I think they should try to trade or let go of everyone besides Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and maybe Antonio Daniels, the rest of that squad is trash.

i think they did pretty well with the garbage they have. every game was close, so compared to last year, they put up a much better fight. But yes, duncan and parker are the only ones worth keeping, cept bowen and rose.

The biggest change they need in the immediate future is to FIRE GREGG POPOVICH. Seriously.

you think they can get something good for anyone other than Duncan or Parker? Their best bet is to just wait for cap space.

Who do they have under contract

Duncan, Parker, Rose [ a good back up], Daniels [he is a good backup sg] and Bowen [another good back up]

    is where ya start

Steve Smith on the bench only hurts ya in the pocket book
but i'd take him on my bench [if he takes less money]

    Ferry . . . every bench needs a 12th man

    everyone else. .. GONE!!

    including Pops

A healthy Robinson is what they need. Pretty amazing that they were able to be in every game playing virtually without their second-best player.

With all other contracts expiring next summer except Duncan's Player Option and Parker, they'll have a lot of cap space.

Yes : they were able to lose. :D

Seriously, Lakers fans can counter that by saying they were playing against an injured Shaq. I've never seen Shaq with so little explosion. Several plays where he shot the ball, was fouled, but missed the layup. When healthy, he would just dunk it and get the foul. A healthy Robinson couldn't have saved them from the Lakers. We were joking in chat almost every game after the first one that it didn't matter what lead the Spurs had in the first half, because it better be huge come the 4th quarter. The Spurs were good enough to get at least a 15 point lead in a couple of those games I believe, but in the end were outplayed by the Lakers in the 4th.

I don't think the Spurs can do anything to stop this Lakers era...Right now, they must go down as one of the best teams ever,...I really see this happening for the next 2 or 3 years...

It's kinda sad if you like Spurs action, because they would likely be making years of championship runs if it were'nt for the L.A. team.

The spurs need Robinson to hurry up and retire and Duncan probably won't stay with the team any longer than he has to. The should keep Parker and try to build a team the way Dallas did and groom Parker to the Steve Nash mold.

Rockets fans, let's keep in mind the tonnage of cap space the Spurs will have after next year. Free agents at that time: Jason Kidd and Antonio McDyess.

So, from their viewpoint, they need to rebuild. From my viewpoint, I hope everything falls into place so that Kidd and Dyess are almost anywhere but San Antonio. 'Cause Kidd is from the West. He might just come back.

    The 'rebuild' started last summer.

Yes, they should have some significant cap flexibility next summer (currently roughly $30 million though some of that will be used to re-sign their own free agents before then). There will definitely be enough for one max free agent (regardless of # of years of experience) and should be enough left over for another significant one.

Rose and Bowen will be retained this summer.

Younger guys like Stephen Jackson and Charles Smith will get more playing time next season. Spurs are expected to bring in Emmanuel Ginobili from Europe as well.

Yes, the free agent pool in 2003 is fairly deep.

The "rebuild" started last summer?? How so? They are still an old team. Porter and Smith need to go. What the Spurs need are guys like Mario Elie to keep everyone focused. IMO the rebuilding starts this year.

MrSpur is right, rebuilding has already started.

Its not an overnight occurance, and I'm sure it coincides with Duncan's player option in the year Robinson retires and they have cap space.

Jason Kidd has stated that he would love to play with Duncan, a legit big man.

    Imagine a team of :

    Jason Kidd
    Antonio Daniels
    Bruce Bowen
    DRAFT
    Duncan

That would be a nice team plus the Euro they're getting and Tony parker. Not bad

    OR

    Duncan could go to Orlando.

    Hudson
    McGrady
    Miller
    Hill
    Duncan

DAMN!! They would kill the Lakers!

It started the moment they took on SSmith and DRob's contracts for 2 seasons, set to end in 2003.

And decided that they would start the 19 year old point guard at some time in his rookie season.

Tim Duncan, Malik Rose, Bruce Bowen, Antonio Daniels, and Tony Parker are the players the Spurs should concentrate on keeping.

What about Kidd,Duncan, and Wallace? Ouch! Thats why if the Rockets have the number pick, they should offer the spurs Cato,Taylor,Thomas and the number 1 for Duncan. Even if Duncan doesn't resign with us, we've cleared cap room and its certain the pick the grizz would get for us wouldn't be higher than 20th. With that 15th, we could take the best availible player.

Rudy and CD would be too ashamed to even present such a paltry offer to the Spurs.

How is having the number 1 pick paltry? All they can say is no.
