I think it should be perfectly legal. Besides, it's not like anyone would ever stoop so low as to selectively edit a tape to make another person look bad, right?

    No, it should be mandatory.

Why the f*** is it against the law?

They are here to protect us.

    We pay their salaries.

We have every right to record them on duty.

It's not against the law. Police in the field like to say it to intimidate people to stop recording. The article says they are trying to use anti-wiretapping laws by claiming that the audio recording in a video is recording a private conversation between the suspected perp and officer even though an arrest in the street is a public act.

right now you are allowed to tape as long as you are not interfering w/ the cop's duties. you are supposed to keep a certain distance away.

we have video cameras everywhere now watching us. red light cameras. body scanners at airports. cameras in the cop cars.

but they dont want us taping them out in public?

this country is quickly turning into what we were told the soviet union was in the 80's.

We keep ourselves completely secret while we want YOU to expose everything about yourself....for YOUR safety.

We can see everything you do but you see none of what we do - how does this logic even persist? It doesnt work anywhere, no matter how complex or prestigious and special the institute is. Its either total transparency for EVERYONE, or privacy for everyone (or most).

It amazes me that they are going after this guy despite the fact that the officer in question was totally in the wrong and the video was the key evidence for that. You'd think the DA would run from that type of case.

No it shouldn't be that the one of ways they can be caught in the wrong no more he say she say it on tape.
