It's Yao's team. He's the star. And he's a lot closer to being a third year player than he is to being a rookie. Time for him to put up or shut up. Time for him to take the team on his back and carry them over the hump against lesser teams. Time for him to take full responsibility for losing games like this. You want to surround this guy with role players and think you're going to win a championship? I'm tired of all the excuses with him. This team would have just about the same record without him if Rudy were still the coach. It's been two years and he hasn't added squat to the bottom line - wins and losses. The team has sacrificed so much for him and he hasn't done anything with it. Since we have taken the team reigns away from Steve and given them to Yao, I am official holding him primarily responsible for how the team does. And right now, the team ain't cutting it and he ain't cutting it. I think it's about time the Rockets realize Yao is a third tier player - maybe second at best, and give up all delusions that they have the next great big man. They have to gather as much talent as possible because Yao will never be the guy to lead the team anywhere. Like I said, we should ALL hold him responsible. That's part of being "the man" on a team.
I actually somewhat agree and disagree. The biggest problem is that the Rocks don't know WHO the man is on their team. Is it Steve or Yao. They are suffering from an identity crisis, and need to figure out if they are inside out or outside in. Right now, they are going in circles. DD
have you even looked at Yao's stats for the last month? What else do you want him to do, sweep the court at the end of the night and clean up to stadium?
Damn Yao for making Francis shoot 4-18 today and causing francis to turn the ball over all the time. How dare he!!!
You mean by 10 games or so? But I agree to a certain extent. He has had too many bad games this year and he needs to show up every game.
The problem with Yao Ming is that when he starts off cold, he doesn't get the ball anymore. So he never gets a chance to shoot out of his slump. It also makes him look like a worse player than he really is. How can he put the team on his back when he's not getting the ball? If we had given him the ball as many times as SA does with Duncan, and Yao had today's stats, then I'd be pissed at him. Take into account their FTs, Yao Ming put up the ball 14 times(9 FGA + 10 FTs). Steve Francis put up the ball 21 times(18 FGA + 6 FTs). Those numbers should be reversed.
do u guys realize that the troll who started this thread is one of the biggest Yao bashers on this board?
Yes, 2-9 was poor performance. Yes, 5 rebounds was NOT good at all for a 7'5 center. But the odd thing is, whenever he played well or average, you always wrote a long article about how he wasn't ready to carry the team, how he was overrated, how he should not be the first option, how this would never be his team. Now once he had a not so good game, along with his teammates. Yes, he should be criticised, and yes, he should take part of the blame. But you just jump on him like it is an once-in-life opportunity, and claimed that he should take the full responsibility because it is HIS TEAM and he's the MAN. Wow, I don't get it. You asked him to either put up or shut up. But actually he never opened his mouth. And you asked fans to hold him responsible for today's loss. What would you suggest? Start a trading Yao Ming thread? Slowly, I kind of feel you actually enjoy his failure more than care for the Rockets win. Hmmm, would that be the super ego of you, just like lots of pseudo stars in the league? Because you said in the beginning that he would not succeed, and so should he be, right?
and you do realize the poster of "Yao getting tired?" thread is a YOF. Anyway, I agree with both of them to a certain extent.
Wow. Weakest least supported arguments I've ever heard on this BBS Juugie. This team is further along that at the same point last year. Period. Yao is better in every category than last year. He has only played 1.6 seasons. You think 55+% shooting and clogging the lane/changing shots doesn't get us some wins? and BTW - Yao was a DRAFT pick. Rockets gave up nothing for him, unless you are referring to the #2 pick - Jay Williams who was a mediocre player and ultimately injured likely out of the NBA. Random lottery chance was our biggest ally in getting Yao. Another note Steve would still have the 'reigns' if his play was even in the vicinity of deserving it. Often SF can't make a jump shot even when unguarded. Steve's not getting it done when Yao is in the game or on the bench. I think your throught process is somewhere with Spirit and Opportunity on Mars.
I agree what Juugie said, partly. I know Juugie is a Yao hater, but to think we have to build around Yao and get rid of super talent like Steve Franics, Yao has to show us if he deserves it. 14 pts and 5rebs against Sonics week frontline certainly isn't justified enough to make that decision. So was the 13pts 4 rebs performance against Portland the other night even we won. So far, Yao's two-year career number is like 14.5pts and 9rebs, is it good enough for us to give up Steve Francis? How can he convince us he can carry the team on his shoulder? No, he has to prove himself now; at least he has to show us he is make great progress. So far he disappointed me. He is just so damn inconsistent. BTW, does anyone notice Amare is averaging 20+ pts and 10rebs since All star break?
Have you also noticed the suns at the bottom of the western conference. Anyways Amares production has increased because the suns are headed toward Amare and joe johnson as their future instead of the marbury and marion.
just a few days ago you were b*tching how yao wasn't ready to be the first option on this team and how he probably wont ever be. now you say he should be held solely responsible for all rockets losses. WTF?!? what about francis shooting 4-18 tonight? or the rest of the team playing terrible? what about when yao has a monster game and leads the rox to a W. where are you then?? your selective memory is quite amazing. you're a joke. period.
Did you also notice that the suns lost 9 games in a row when Amare came back from his latest injury and have only won maybe 2 games since? It's easy to put up great numbers on a team going nowhere. Just ask shareef abdur-rahim.
This is the best advice. I'll stop posting in this thread. People responding only fuels the trolls. If no one ever responded to this troll, then he'd get tired of talking to himself.
Don't worry Yao will get his fair share of the blame and when a 7'6 guy goes through about 3 quarters without a single rebound thats not very good at all.
perhaps i caught ming on a bad day against the sonics..but he seem lost today. no motivation watsoever.. and was gettin punked off by the opposing smaller center. we all can agree that yao has the skills.. but it is hihly debatable to which if yao has the mentall cababilty to need the team... to be quite frank yao aint your leader charismatic type of person.. sure he can score. and play defence,, howvever to be a leaser u need to eb a warior to motivate your ohter teamates..blah blah.. this team needs a veteran not neccesasry a superstar or a prolific. i think jim jackson is trying and becoming that tyope of player
Here are the numbers for SF and YM since the all-star break. Mind you, it is this final stretch of games that makes or breaks our team, so this is when true leaders step up and carry the team. SF 32.5% (13.6% from 3) fg 70% ft 5.3 rpg 6 apg 3 TO 2.7 steals (<--bonus) 13 ppg SF is basically doing his job in the rebound and assist areas. Still careless with TO, as usual. Shooting, however, is HORRIBLE and down significantly from career, and even season averages. Needs to find his shot if he is to lead this team, and take better care of the ball of course. YAO 59.3% fg 79.2% ft 7.2 rpg 2.3 apg 2.3 TO 2.2 blocks 20.2 ppg Yao is doing a fine shooting job, and is also showing more and more signs of aggression with physical and skillful dominance. He needs to step up the rebounding though, which is still inexcusable for a 7-6 guy. But when Yao scores and blocks like he's been doing, he's almost unstoppable. We all know the statistics for when Yao takes at least 15 shot attempts...or when Yao has 4 or more blocks a game...or when Yao scores 20 points a game.........they all show we usually WIN when Yao does these things. Yao needs to keep it up and step it up if he is to lead this team. Obviously I'd love for both of these guys to improve their play and stats. But unfortunately, we rarely see a game when both of them have a great game. It's always one goes off while the other stinks it up. We wouldn't be squabbling over who the hell is the leader on this leaky ship if they'd both play up to their expectations and potential!!
