You don 't have to be a huge NBA-expert to recognize the need of a back-up center for the Rockets! Yao is more than 6 weeks out and I don 't think Deke can play starting center until Yao returns ... :(

Can we make a move? Someone a trade proposal? Let me know!

    P.J. Brown should be available.

P.J. Brown would be a great pickup.

time to start playing small ball and start playing offense like the suns. To compensate for our lack of size, we need to start running the floor more. After turnovers, steals, made baskets, whenever we have a chance, the rockets need to start pushing the ball so we can start getting some easy, cheap shots. We got alot of smaller, athletic players on our team, and we should start taking advantage of our personnel.

It was time for this back when Scot Pollard was a free agent, but apparently Rockets management doesn't read my threads :(

And no I don't think he'd come in and put up impressive stats, but he can rebound, he shoots nice %'s and brings a lot of energy. Not afraid to mix it up.

Howard should be our starting center since Yao and Tracy are out. You have to run Howard at the 5, Hayes at the 4, with Bonzi, Shane, and Rafer. Then bring Luther off the bench with Deke and JLIII for the second unit.

Bonzi and Shane have to become co number 1 options with Bonzi working the post. Howard would work best with Bonzi because of his ability to hit that jumper which seems to be working better for him. It's not great but it is sure better than watching Deke and Howard clutter up the court with their slow play. Deke is an enigma. He's tremendous on the defensive end and horrid on the offensive end. We need to use him when we are going more uptempo with smaller, quicker guards like JLIII who will release and get the ball up the floor in a hurry.

Novak should see some minutes backing up Shane with the long ball and when he is in there, we are going to have to go zone. He's terrible defensively. So we've got to hide him on defense and then make sure he gets plenty of touches offensively.

I just don't see any possible trades for a center that would help us more than they would hurt us right now. There ain't no Yaos. The offense simply has to change and we've got to put players on the floor that can mesh offensively and hide our weaknesses defensively. Scot Pollard does not help us. He is not an offensive threat. Haywood, same thing. P.J. Brown would be nice but what are we going to give up for him? Chicago ain't stupid. They're not going to take Juwan and what else is there to get P.J. with?

Right now, we need offense. We need players that can score the ball and can create offense. JLIII really needs to step up and open up with his scorer's mentality. Hopefully JVG will see that and adjust his system for a scoring point guard. The system should be adjusted to emphasize penetration, penetration, penetration since Yao is out. We need to get to the rim and get layups and fouls called. That way our 3 point shots become open and not forced and hopefully we can get teams in the bonus and get some points from the FT line. Don't know what else to say. Besides this sux and we are going to have to work our tails off every game even to have a chance of .500 while 111 is gone.

Hayes to the center position and bring up Novak to the PF.

Or, we can do some shopping in the EuroLeague.

I agree. Magloire is decent, but when Yao comes back, he's not gonna take lightly to a backup role. And Deke is already a very good backup even at his advanced age.

Hayes at centre is iffy. He hustles, he plays hard, he's physical, but even at at the PF position, he's severely undersized. I don't see him thriving at centre, not unless he has the Ben Wallace combination of hops and defensive instinct, which he doesn't.

I like the Kemp idea. Throw him a 15-day contract to see what he can do.

    Too much baggage. I'll pass.

Magloire is the best choice now imo.

But if we have a chance to get Delonte West, I'd jump in a heartbeat.

He's making 8.3 million and is an expiring contract. No way Portland parts with him, unfortunately. He could come in and shoot as much as he wanted to with this group we have now and probably score 20 a game. He averaged 14 a few seasons ago on less than 10 attempts.

But again, he's out of reach.

You've a point there. But isn't he reportedly disgruntled in Portland or something? That Przybilla is taking his minutes or whatnot.

If we can, we should definitely get Magloire. He's not great, but he's good enough to help keep us in the running, at least for a few games.
