I hate it when people do this ****. This article is just talking about 2008 inventions and this specific one is about a skyscraper. So why knock on Houston? Bastards. http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1852747_1854195_1854149,00.html
Texas > France Bank of America Tower > Eiffel Tower Tortilla > Croissant Cough syrup > wine I'm not sure where the comparison is, really. Even Capt. France himself, Tony Parker, married a Texas girl. Peace to the lowrises, Jacques.
I think it's too sensitive to think that they're poking fun at or alluding to anything bad about Houston's skyline with "Very tall buildings are a tough sell in Paris. The Parisians don't want their lovely low-rise city looking too much like Houston. So Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron knew they'd have to win over skeptical neighbors to get their 50-story tower built." But, yes, I would have hoped they had picked another city besides ours... I am sure Parisians don't exactly say ".... blah blah le-blah, le-blah Houston foh-ho-ho [harrumphing]."
Anything at the Texas State Fair > Crepes Or Tres Leches > Crepes But I think you could have stopped at Texas > France and there would not be a legit argument from either side against it.
Says all of the people that haven't been to Paris. As far as being a picturesque city and in most other regards as well, Houston can't carry Paris' jock strap. Their mass transit is amazing as is the food, history, and architecture. I'd take the view from Montmartre over anything Houston has to offer. You people are nuts.
i don;t think it's a diss at houston, more of a compliment....we have a very tall skyline and they don't want that, they want density....at least that's what i understood from that statement
My point was there was no need to dig at Houston to make a point about Paris. I lived in Paris for a month. It was great. But I love Houston. And mainly because I don't have to deal with euro attitudes like yours. I know you love the lifestyle there very much. You've said so many times in many threads. I get it.
Oh boy, Texans b****ing about other cultures' arrogance, that is rich. My theory is that Americans and the French tend to dislike each other because they are so similar, not so different.
WTF. I thought this was the 21st century. Buildings should be getting taller, not shorter. I WANT MY SPACE ELEVATOR
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/11/dubai_and_the_uae.html speaking of douche bags or eyesores in cities... (eff it, I don't know the difference, but I thought I'd share this). Spoiler
