Kevin Mchale to take over, he is the one who should have been fired and he is going but a even worse coach.
Wow. Blame this one on Spree and Sam placing money before the team. Flip is a good coach that will easily find another job. McHale is a moron though. KG has been in the league for God knows how long and he has failed to get him a sidekick superstar.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1990122 Updated: Feb. 12, 2005, 4:41 PM ET ESPN.com news services A season after guiding his team to the Western Conference finals, Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders has been fired. The team announced Saturday that Saunders, who has coached Minnesota since 1995, has been dismissed. According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press' Web site, Saunders was not present at the Wolves' Saturday afternoon practice, which was instead run by vice president for basketball operations Kevin McHale and assistant coach Randy Whitman. McHale will replace Saunders. Although most of last season's team returned, the Wolves are just 25-26 and ninth in the Western Conference standings.
Flip is a terrific coach! He will find another job (Lakers maybe?) McHale blew the whole operation but its natural: when things turn bad..the coach is the first to go
Put Sam Cassell, Latrell Sprewell and Michael Olowakandi on the same team, and see what happens. Implosion.
I see some trades or something soon. They are going to have to retool their team. They are getting older and need some new life in their team. Cassell gets hurt every other day and is out a week for each injury. They need to move him and get younger players to play around KG.
About a month or two ago, I heard Snapper Jones say that the Wolves had stopped hearing Saunders. He said it happens to every coach. Eventually the players will tune him out, and that means it is time for a new coach. Doesn't mean that the coach is saying anything wrong, just the players refuse to hear it any longer.
the thing that gets me is how the hell did that bit actor in cheers get a job in the nba to begin with? i mean seriously, dude is in like three episodes of cheers and next thing i know he's the GM for the timberwoleves
I just hope it won't be detrimental to KG's stats, he's the anchor of my fantasy team...first Kiri got hurt, and now this!
About players tuning coaches out...I remember Larry Bird saying the same thing in his book Bird Watching. He said that coaches should only be around a team for 3 maybe 4 years max then the players start tuning you out.
So, as we move onto the offseason, will Phil Jackson or Larry Brown be interested in coaching KG and a team that has a chance at a title? NY, LA, Minnesota. Which team has the best chance at a title?
