Thomas seems to have fully redeemed himself from whatever went on in Chicago. He appears to enjoy playing for the Suns and D'Antoni, and wants to come back - says money will not be a problem. And the Suns sound like they want back a 26 mpg, 15 pts, 7 rb forward who hits 45% of his 3's. Chances of the Rockets to sign him as a solid role player who would fill a big hole? Would appear to be between slim and none. Besides our "system" would probably ruin him and make him look like a problem player. (sigh)
Tim Thomas, much like Eric Dampier and multiple other talented but oh-so-lazy NBA players before him, is playing to audition for a new contract and up his price as much as he can, which he's done a pretty damn good job at in these playoffs. Oh, and btw, Tim Thomas would be HORRIBLE in the Rockets' set offense, he would go back to sucking. He needs a free-flowing offense like what the Suns run, some players just need to play in a system like that to truly flourish (i.e. Stromile Swift, IMO, would flourish with the Suns).
I think he was thrilled to playing in Mike D'Antoni's system, which means shooting more and defending less. He fits that system very well. He won't be nearly effective if he plays for JVG's system.
here here. no more tim thomas threads. even if we did go after him, i wouldnt wanna talk about it. It'd be the biggest screw up by management since, well, Swift.
can't even compare the two. everyone KNOWS Tim Thomas has talent. Jerome James had one hot series and that was it. I guess everyone forgets he played extremely well with the BUCKS. the problem was when he got to the Knicks, but then everyone sucks when they play with Marbury.
LOL if 12 points, 4 rebounds (or something like that) and more TO's than assists for 30MPG during his Milwaukee career qualifies as 'extremely well', than i'm crazy. even after Milwaukee traded Big Dog away hoping to 'set free' Tim Thomas, his production didn't go up much either.
d'antoni's system and a pg like nash extrapolates the basketball skill of any player. TT is still a scrub and is only doing well because of the suns offense. any other team, he'd be still playing in his scrub ways.
Agreed. I didn't forget how Tim Thomas played with the Bucks. He was a gigantic bust. I thought he could be an All-Star, but he was never better than ok. His stats would have been decent if they were all he was capable of, but they weren't. He has always been capable of putting up the kind of numbers he's putting up in Phoenix right now, he just hasn't cared enough to do it. Now he's in the playoffs in a contract year and guess what? He's putting up the kind of numbers he's capable of putting up. In that regard, he's exactly like Jerome James.
