If you can remember I posted a while back about going to Vegas for new years or all star. Well I convinced my party that going for all star weekend would be the best bet, no pun intended.
I have been offered a very attractive package to stay at The Golden Nugget, and was just wondering if any Clutchfans had first had experience with it since Tilman Fretitta renovated it. I know that it had been renovated twice in the last 5 years, and I was just wondering about the room quality compared to the likes of Sahara, Paris, etc. Being that a room at the later hotels are only $100 a night more (keep in mind this is all star weekend im talking about  ).

If anyone has info to share about the Golden Nugget compared to Sahara or Paris please let me know.

I will come back and post pics of all the all star parties I attend to show my thanks.

i'm sure the Nugget is way nicer than the Sahara. Its downtown though. I might have access to a car next week when I go to Vegas. Maybe I'll check it out.

I've recently seen pictures of the suites and the lobby after the renovation and they look really nice. The new poker room looks nice too. I'll definitely be checking the Nugget out when I go to Vegas.

Uggghhh...I was downtown this weekend and should've checked it out. The in-laws are supposed to be back in town in two weeks (they always stay at the local Hawaiian hangout, The California Hotel)...I'll try to swing by and check out the new pool and aquarium. The local commercials for it make it look really nice.

Some of my friends are going to Vegas mid-week. I think I'm going to go a day early (get there Monday evening instead of Tuesday afternoon)..

    A) suggestions on what to do that I wouldn't have done in my past trips? My main thought is going to see Downtown and the old casinos and all. (I'd need some advice on what to see/do Downtown if that's the thought)

    B) suggestions on a cheap, decent place to stay since I'll be by myself for a night? I basically want a room that's gonna be smoke-free (i.e. no crap like Frontier or whatever) and within decent walking distance of stuff.

If your suggestion on (A) is Downtown, then I'd ask for a suggestion of a hotel that's in that area, too, I guess...so I can just crash eventually.

    Thanks!

The Nugget was the nicest hotel downtown BEFORE the renovations, and on par with many of the Strip hotels, so I'd imagine it's pretty damn nice after the renovations. When I was there last summer, they were working on renovating the pool.

The Nugget is the best place to stay downtown...very nice....good atmosphere, and decent dining.

ok I guess the real question based on flight availability is..

Is it worth getting in late (9 pm or later) to check out old downtown Vegas from I guess 10 pm till 4 am or whatever and paying $75 for a room? Or is that not enough time (or the right time), and should I just go the next afternoon with my friends and save the $$?

Um, downtown ain't that big, well at least the decent part ain't that big...there's the golden nugget, a handful of other casinos, $1 shrimp cocktail (i forgot where, but ask around), and a Jillian's. Oh and a nudey bar. Unless you're gambling, eating, or hangin out at the nudy bar, you can see all of downtown in less than an hour. It's like a mall or something, whereas the strip, everything is so damn huge that it takes forever just to walk to the casino next door.

I thought the Nugget had nice rooms ... just as nice as Paris and WAY better than Sahara (that is a cheapo place usually). The only drawback is being in downtown. If I were you, I'd go with something on the strip, but as far as room quality, the GN is pretty good.

    Gummi,

If I were you, I would stay away from the Sahara, especially if you're going with your sig other...just my two cents.

As for the Golden Nugget, I am not familiar with it at all. However, if you can stay at Paris without breaking the bank, then GO FOR IT! It's FAR superior to the Sahara, it ain't even close; plus, it's in the middle of the strip and it's easier to just walk around and enjoy other hotels/casinos around it.

Either way, have fun, it should be a great time to be in Vegas.
