So we can kill the narrative that he’s cheap now right? I think grossly overpaying for players contradicts that sentiment
that doesn’t mean anything Will he pay a hefty LT bill, and for many years at that, if it becomes necessary? If the Rockets became a contender in the future looking at paying a large LT bill, will it be back to cost cutting moves and salary dumps and declining trades because they might increase the bill? That’s when the narrative will be killed Rockets had 60 mil in cap space this summer, they were gonna spend it regardless
Overpaying players has nothing to do with they. It’s money we HAD to spend. It remains to be seen if he is willing to go over LT.
Considering even teams like Clipper and GSW are cutting back on salary I don't think that narrative applies anymore.
It could be that more and more teams are getting cautious, and whoever does spend it smartly and at the right places, would have an advantage.
Yall just haters at this point. Did everything Les never wanted to do. That means new training facility, new boeing, tanking for 3 years, getting top coach, and not caving in to the Harden. Also reverting this asian theme and returning to Texas vibe is a bonus
Yeah and Fertita has indeed been spending smartly, like hiring Udoka who is one of the more expensive coaches and also investing in a new practice facility. Rox have also bought picks the past couple of years. Cheap owners wouldn't do any of that, but CF posters would rather die on their hill than admit they are wrong.
Has nothing to do with his LTS when he was gifted a 65 win legitimate contender. Stupid thread. The actual contenders in the league are all in the LT. Other teams who avoid it know their team isn’t a actual contender. Oh common sense spending a salary floor means nothing and overpaying players significantly is actually just even more stupid. Hey look at me I had $60 mil in cap to spend and I spent it on exactly 0 actual stars or even a star tilman is still a moron and the worst owner in the league. Nothing has changed
The narrative already got killed when Fertita ok'd tanking. You realize how much $$$ you give up when you tank? Cheap owners never tank because that's so much revenue lost via playoffs and now playins. If you get play in that's like 2-3 extra games and then you make it as the 8th seed that's at least 4 games. No cheap owner will turn that kind of money down.
He cheaped out on a title window, the Tilman nuthuggers can deny that all they want but it happened. Morey was forced to dump good assets just to shed salary and vital role players went elsewhere. I hope he changes the narrative, but nobody calling him cheap is wrong because it was factually true. When we needed him to spend the most he prioritized his short term bottom line. Every NBA team uses most of their cap space, they have to, he's being congratulated for doing the minimum.
It isn't baseball. You have to spend money in the NBA. It's about will he spends beyond that. But right now, this team doesn't look good unless the coaching staff was the biggest problem.
Udokas deal was way cheaper than Monty Williams and about the same as Frank Vogel, Quin Snyder, Nick Nurse. It's probably more than whoever the Raptors rookie coach is. In other words It's the median. How is that supposed to be that impressive?
You know in this new NBA you HAVE to spend right? Houston had to at least spend roughly 50 million this offseason
Fking tilman apologists, gotta always white knight for a man who literally blew up a championship caliber team bc he was a cheapskate. Imagine he tried selling to us that John wall and cousins were the reinforcement harden needed to compete.
He's taking steps in the right direction with building the new practice facility, but I agree. The true test will be when/if we're contenders again will he pay the price to win. I think when the team exploded he learned the NBA and relationships are an entirely different beast from the hospitality industry, some people are very hard to replace or irreplaceable.
