Trump 2.0 has not yet started, but the dotard is already easing up on the PRC

Incoming President Donald Trump poses as a China hawk. A hallmark of his economic plan is higher tariffs on Chinese imports to help boost US manufacturing and stunt China’s dominance.
He also wants to revoke trade privileges China enjoys with the United States and block China’s power in other ways.

Yet Trump seems to be softening on China before he even begins his second term.

The most obvious consolation to China is Trump’s flip-flop on TikTok, the social media app whose parent company is a Chinese tech juggernaut.

Man, TIC TOK has some crazy powers.
I do not have it, but wife does. She is like a shark whose eyes glaze over and two hours later she crawls out of the rabbit hole back to reality, and she says what happened, where did the time go.

She is addicted to some dude who trims cow hooves

all for naught, as The US Supreme Court upholds law that would ban TikTok in the U.S. clearing the way for the widely popular app to be forced to shutter in the U.S. as soon as Sunday.

The court's opinion comes days before the law, which was passed with bipartisan majorities of Congress last April, is set to take effect. TikTok and a group of content creators who use the app argued the law infringes on their free speech rights, and the Supreme Court heard arguments in their bid to block it one week ago.

My guess is that the TikTok CEO still attends the inauguration not because he thinks he can convince Trump to find a way to reinstate TikTok, but to be there to broker a deal to sell off to one of the oligarchs Elon, Zuck, or Bezos.

My guess is they cut some sort of deal for a few billion dollars, and then there can be an emergency stay of some sort to keep the app live while that transaction goes through.

Will be interesting to see what happens on Sunday thought through whenever a sale can happen in principle. I'm assuming it'll be taken off the app exchange, but not sure how the DOJ I guess can enforce the ability to go into everyone's phones and block access... however that's done.

Either way this stinks to high heaven of corruption by the Oligarchs to monopolize social media, and the Dems that got sold a bag of goods here were foolish to go along with it. Has nothing to do with Chinese security and everything to do with the Tech Oligarchs fueling a campaign to buy their competitor in a hostile takeover.

Zuckerberg is such a pathetic sad individual. Instead of not allowing Facebook to suck like it does, you just use lobbying in DC to shut down the competition so that way you can take over and make that app suck too. Fck that loser.

assuming a sale of TikTok to a US-based co, my $ is on Meta acquiring TikTok, not the former illegal alien Elon

Yeah me too just because I think banks would be a little more scrupulous with Elon's track record of overpaying, and imploding Twitter. Zuckerberg also has a pretty poor track record from the user experience perspective, but from the ad revenue & profitability standpoint, my understanding is he's got the better track record.

Ad revenue is obviously all they care about, and the lack of companies wanting to mess around with X has to be alarming for investors.

I also wouldn't rule out Bezos though because the "Tik Tok Shop" has actually become a pretty formidable online retail force as of late. That would be a huge get for Bezos to bring that under his monopolized marketplace.

Wasn't Microsoft the one that made an offer the last go-around. Meta should not be allowed because of antitrust.

Everyone in this thread is so disconnected from reality. We have OP claiming Trump is subservient to the Chinese (it was Russia last time).
Then others claiming Zuck, Musk and Bezos (no imagination whatsoever) will buy Tiktok. Bytedance has said they will not divest.

If anyone has followed Tiktok beyond being a mindless consumer drone on the platform, they can understand why there is little interest.

If Tiktok shuts down for a day, the platform is dead. The vast majority of users have the attention span of a gnat. A day is an eternity for them. They will return back to Instagram, another platform for those with little imagination.

Trump might save Tic Toc, isn't this funny. Also banning Tic Toc made little rednote the #1 downloaded app in Apple app store, self goal anyone.

Remember something that hasn't been mentioned is tiktok largest investor was one of Trumps largest donors. He only did a complete 180 after Yas donated millions to his campaign

    https://fortune.com/2024/12/09/trump-jeff-yass-tiktok-avoid-ban/

The dude is one of the most corrupt scumbags in america yet his braindead low iq cultist @Salvy @Tomstro will worship him as a populist lol

MAGATs are genuinely some of the dumbest most brainwashed people in the world

Tiktoks largest investor is trumps biggest donor

Tik Tok going away is only going to upset the attention seekers trying to get millions of likes, the investors making money off people, and those with nothing better to do in their life than watch video clips. If it poses a security threat then I'm all for banning that crap. The mindless drones will find other social media to waste their time following. Kids these days are consumed in that crap. Follow me, like me, I'm desperate for attention. Ugh

Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. (DJT) would the dark house in this race. A stock swap and Trump as Chairman with a $1 billion a year salary would get the job done ... if not, then Tik Tok can just keep bumping the salary until Trump capitulates.

    I agree with your sentiment.

However the security issue has to do with the ability of the chinese government, by extension of byte dance, to turn on features like the mic at any time. While it might seem benign doing it to you and me, there are many high level officials who stupidly have tiktok installed on their phones.

    STATEMENT FROM TIKTOK:
In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.

It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.
