Please explain why Americans have such an issue with it? It's better than a loss. All I know is that it means my favourite team didn't lose so I'm perfectly fine with a tie if my favourite team didn't get the win. (during a season-not playoffs) Why the dislike for it? I get the "dissatisfied" feeling that some have when their team ties in an NFL game, or in the NHL years ago or in Soccer but why wouldn't one just appreciate the fact that their favourite team didnt lose?
Conflict without resolution. I'd rather find out who is better, even if it is the other guy, than stew in ambiguity.
A tie isn't a f**king result. And appreciating that your team "didn't lose" , WTF kind of mindset is that? I would be a more agitated that we didn't win, than happy we didn't lose. To have a hotly contested game end without a result, what an empty feeling.
Ties are fine. There are very much many instances where two teams flat out do not deserve the win. Granted they get enough chances to do so and continue to fail. (A 0-0 result in soccer). It does cause some teams to play for a tie, and that has been a problem in soccer. Also let's be real. The "coin flip" solution in soccer in the form of penalty kicks are ridiculous. It makes more sense in games with lower scores.
This reminds me, I was so pissed when the greatest match of all time -- The Mountain vs the Viper -- should have been called a tie. They both died. They weren't in Sudden Death, people. IT WAS A TIE!!!
That's the mindset of knowing "my" team "didn't lose"! That also depends on how the team played. If they played like crap then I'll appreciate that they didn't lose. If they played great then yeah I'd be ticked off that they didn't win. I just don't get this thing where it's an empty feeling if both teams tie...in a regular season game.
i agree with op. in ties, everybody wins. isn't that what we teach our kids? as long as you try hard and have fun, you're a winner.
