Some man got a ticket for going 58 in a 65 zone. That's rediculous on the cop's part. The sign "65 LIMIT" means 65 is the MAXIMUM one can go, not the minimum. He needs to take a math class. Some people think the left lanes are for going 70-75, but if that is the law, then why doesn't the signs say "75 LIMIT"?
58 in a 65 is about 12mph too slow its hazardous for other commuters when someone drives too slow, especially on lanes other than exit
There are minimum speed limits, too, but usually when speed limits are 70, the minimum is around 40-55, I think. I could be wrong about that. Technically, couldn't a cop pull you over for obstructing or impeding traffic as well? I'm not sure how that works.
Pulling someone over for going too slow makes sense IF they are holding up traffic and there's a long line behind them. From what I've in the article, it seemed like traffic was moving smoothly and he was in the slow lane. 58 in a 65 lane should not be a ticket if he isn't directly hindering traffic. That's just ridiculous.
Some sections of highway have a minimum speed posted in addition to the limit. Driving fast when everybody else is going slow is dangerous. So is driving slow when everybody else is going fast.
Driving too slow is extremely dangerous and, according to a defensive driving teacher I saw 2 years ago, is one of the most common causes of accidents.
How is it dangerous driving slow on the freeway? I see slow cars on the left lanes everyday. All I do is switch to a right lane and then back to the left lane. Easy thing to do. Some freeways, like the 59 northbound, requires people to go on the farthest left 2 lanes to exit Travis and Louisiana or other parts of Downtown. Old people cannot drive fast like young ones. But then they have to get on the left lanes. What are they to do? Just be considerate. If you could drive fast, then you're good enough to slow down, switch lane and switch back to continue driving fast.
I'm completely skeptical of this unlinked story, particularly of a minimum speed limit that's apparently only 5 miles below the regular limit. If there's one thing I learned from Ed Habermann's driving school and six years of job-mandated Smith Driver Training, it's that the speed limit is only the maximum speed "under ideal conditions;" which means you should theoretically be driving below it. Furthermore, I thought cops generally gave drivers a 3-5 mph cushion, due to the margin of error on radar guns.
Driving 45MPH on a freeway with a speed limit of 70MPH is dangerous. Cars going ~70MPH are not ready to run into a car that's suddenly driving 25MPH slower than them. However, driving 7MPH below the limit should not be considered as ticket worthy.
I just posted the link. Yeah, it is rediculous. I think the minimum on freeways is actually 40. I saw this on some part of the freeway but I don't remember. However, driving 58 is not that slow, no matter what lane.
Florida has minimum speed limits posted (probably because of all the old people living there haha) it was weird to see... but I think they outta have some here.
I think that is slow but not ticket worthy. I grandfather who is 86 drives between 45-50 in a 65. He has not gotten a ticket for it but he probably should
u know one of the 2 biggest reasons for traffic anytime of day is people going slower than the speed limit and merging lanes. look at any section of the road that's usually a bottle neck..something to do with a merging lane. when there's more cars on the road like in the morning, people need to pick up the pace.
