Pretty amazing if you ask me. 13,000 sold out and the rest are reserved for partial plans or single game... OKC loves bball i guess. Big change compared to the poor attendance sonics got at seattle. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6000057.html
remember though this is a town where people LIVE to go to the Oklahoma State Fair[Yes , i can make fun of the people here, too!!} we'll see how thrilled they are when the team is 8-25.
Ten years ago, I would have laughed at the idea of teams called the Thunder and the Bobcats. Now it's a beautiful reality. They really add to the prestige of the league. What a dream!
Oklahoma City is similar to San Antonio. Fairly large size with no other sport teams to compete with except for the Sooners who are not in town.
rockbox-you might want to invest in an atlas ; Norman is just OKC south along those lines did anyone see where the Sooners took out full two page ads in the two Seattle newspapers this week , i guess, trumpeting the greatness of the university. Arrogance at it's finest.
So, let's say the McDonalds food tastes disgusting (and it is) and restaurant is not air-conditioned. You would still go there? I would rather have no basketball team than a crap team with no potential that only gets about 20-35 wins a season.
The greater OKC area has about 1.2 million people while San Antonio has about 1.9 million. I didn't say that they were the same size. I said that the were similar since both are fairly large with only one major sports team and no college teams to compete with.
