There are three types of coaches. 1. Those who win because of personnel: Rick Adelman Phil Jackson KC Jones Greg Popovich Doc Rivers Byron Scott Rudy Tomjanovich Lenny Wilkins 2. Those who win because they coach basketball: Hubie Brown Larry Brown Rick Carlisle Chuck Daly Mike Dunleavy Cotton Fitzsimmons George Karl Eric Musselman Pat Riley Jerry Sloan 3. The rest. Houston should recruit from the second group...AND trade players that are difficult to coach. Note to the Delusional: No where in the second list do the names "Jeff Van Gundy," "Larry Smith," "Calvin Murphy," "Paul Silas," "Avery Johnson," "John Lucas," "Doc Rivers," "Phil Jackson," "Mario Elie," "Kenny Smith," "Matt Guokas," "Doug Collins," or "Kareem Abdul Jabbar" appear. Mike Dunleavy? Let's get real now, he hasn't done anything without the Showtime Lakers and Portland's MESS of talent in the late 90s (even then, his team choked to death in the playoffs). What did he do with Milwaukee? Absolutely nothing?
Paul Silas is in the second group. I think everybody forgets how Mike Dunleavy mishandled a lot of the talent he did coach. Because he could not instill Disicpline.
i don't blame Dunleavy too much for the collapse. It's too hard to control 12 players when 10 of them are the problem.
Don't you remember the first year Doc Rivers was with the Magic? That team had no business getting anywhere near the playoffs with Darrell Armstrong as their "star"...
Yeah, I guess you could be right about MD in Portland, there GM was a big part of it as well. What about the LA fiasco?
