Williams has finally cracked out of his shell. He is playing like a guy who has skills w/grit. Hard nose basketball, the guy who was traded for Pippen.

With that said, Williams has just solved our problem at the SF position. He can do what Pippen (1 of the greatest 50 NBA Players) could not do, be a positive leader on this team for at least a short period of time. Oh, and he can play limited minutes at the PF. Next year will be Williams year.

Anderson can play the SF and the SG (being out of Utah is going to bring Anderson into the lime light and he is loving it by his positive play for the Rocks). Mobley can play the SG, some SF, and the PG; he is without a doubt deserved of the 6th man award. Then there is the Francise who can play PG and SG.

The Rockets did it in one year. They have the players to win a championship. But, now they need the other components.

Thomas, Cato, Rogers, Bullard, Drew are not part of this equation. They are decent players but just don't fit in the Rockets=Champions equation.

I like Walt as much as the next person (hey, they don't make you executive vice president to the chairman of the in-the-closet wizfanclub for nothing [IMG]), but a few weeks of awesome basketball doesn't "solve" our problem at SF. I no doubt want to keep him, as he could provide some veteran leadership and be the spark off the bench along with Cuttino. Wizard has a good offensive repetoire and has provd he can drain from the outside with consistency, take it to whole without giving us heartattacks and has rebounded well on top of that. But he is, always has been and always will be a defensive liability with a streaky shot. His defensive defencies will never allow him to be a starter for a championship calibre team. Sure, we're anything but that right now, but thats where we one day want to be, right?

If we could acquire Bo Outlaw or possibly Rashard Lewis in the off-season, I would start Williams in the beginning of the season, and let the better player over the course of the season start during the stretch run. In the beginning of the season, Walt didn't have much competition for his playing time, and that led to him underachieving. Now, he has realized that unless he stepped up his play, he would be dumped in the off-season so he stepped up in the biggest way. But unless we acquire or draft someone who could threaten to take his starters minutes next season, he will feel safe and satisified again and will play without motivation or fear. In my opinion, the Wizard was custom made to be a adequate to good starter, and a very good to great bench player.

    He's a defensive liabilty, yes.
Can he start for a championship caliber team, yes.

Basketball is a team game. As long as Cato is on the floor, he shouldn't be too bad as long as he makes the offensive player work his way to the basket and Cato isn't sleeping.

I would rather have a defensive stud, usually. The rockets need the offense though when the other members of the frontline aren't dynamic scorers.

Now the flip side. He is weak defensively, and the rockets probably won't draft high enough for a big man and don't need a guard. The rockets first pick will probably fight walt for PT, but be the backup. If Walt doesn't produce early on next season, he will lose his spot.

In order for the Rockets to be sucessfull, they need ball handler along side of Steve Francis.

Francis is the point guard, but he is also a scorer. Williams is needed to allow Francis to switch over to scorer during points in the game.

Don't forget that while in College, Williams was the primary ball handler at 6'8" for good periods of time.

So, Williams is the guy who compliments Francis the most on this team. Williams will pass the ball if he doesn't have the open shot.

Cuttino the best friend on the team will shoot first then rebound then shoot then pass out the ball to francis. Williams will be an all around team player.
