Some numbers struck me when analyzing last season 2007-2008 3pt Attempts 3pt % Alston 407 (35%) Battier 369 (38%) Tmac 295 (29%) In Rocket's history http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/leaders_season.html 3-Pt Field Goal Attempts 1. Luther Head 939 Is Rafer trying to be the biggest chucker in Rocket's history? "From way downtown"-2-My Lou
Rafer really gets a bad wrap.....On a team with two max out superstars, he played well last year as a surprise 3rd option. He kept us in games and won games for us.....Hell!!! if he had played in game 1 and 2, we might have won the damn series again the Jazz lol. Sad that he gets a bad wrap for having to shoot because he was left open.
Well...to be fair, I'd rather take him shooting that thing from downtown at a roughly 35+% clip than him taking it to the hole repeatedly and only finishing at a sub-50% clip...I think the point differential based on the percentages that he's converting these shots actually favours him taking the 3 rather than taking it in and shooting one of his god-awful teardrops.
At least last year he finally started to hit teardrops (I can still here Geno wretch) but the open 3s in this offense you have to take. And don't worry, no one will ever be the chucker Mad Max was. His place in history is secure.
when he gets the touches out of double teams, usually they're WIDE OPEN 3pt shots. he has to take them. however, as the season went on, he did do a good job of attacking the basket. 35% is a very good %. his 2pt% is what needs work.
you realize if if he averages 497 3 point attempts in the next 2 years, he will be the #1 jacker in Rockets history!!!!
I voted less than 400 b/c we got Barry now (also, if Greene cracks the rotation I can see him chucking up 3's as well) Tinman, You should have also listed how many 3-Pt Field Goal Made. It is interesting that Vernon Maxwell shot on average 5.57 3's per game (as a Rocket) while Rafer is at an average of 5.42 (as a Rocket). Not much of a difference!
Yeah, but Vernon would just start jacking 3s because he was pissed off at something/someone - and with Dream on the court under the old rules. I've seen Rafer try to "answer" when his man scores on him but I've never seen him not try to run the offense on consecutive possessions. Max was in a league by himself many times. That's why you love him so much.
Rafer is OUR POINT GUARD. Maxwell was a shooting guard. The difference is that Maxwell's 3 pointers were more memorable <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0idEHGQFlP4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0idEHGQFlP4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
obviously b/c those were championship teams. give this team a chance and as they go deep, maybe rafer will have some memorable 3s
I hope he does, but I don't trust Rafer on those fade away falling out of bounds 40 footers. part of me thinks that's TMAC'S JOB!!
i think rafer has improved. rafer REALLY frustrated me after the 06-07 playoffs when he shot 33% in the playoffs. but he really tried to penetrate more last yr and actually made more of his floaters. give him time with adelman. i think adelman gives him enough freedom where he'll excel. I look for good things with rafer next year. falling out of bound 40 footers? i don't recall rafer doing that?
Rick Adelman would be out of Houston if he allows Rafer to shoot a 1000 3s. This is still really amazing 3-Pt Field Goal Attempts 1. Rafer Alston 529 2006-07 529 THREE POINTERS!!! and that's with TRACY MCGRADY ON YOUR TEAM!!

Rafer would be in the next tier.
