By accepting either Mallett or Vick, you're accepting that the Texans need ANOTHER 2-14 season to guarantee getting Mariota or Winston. Taking another team's retread at this juncture would just be delaying the inevitable, while also putting us in a WORSE position in getting a franchise QB. It makes little to no sense to go out and get Vick (who probably wouldn't come here anyways since we can't afford him), or to GIVE UP draft picks for Ryan Mallett. Bridgewater and Manziel will be better pros than Mallett, so when you have the opportunity to take one of them, why would you pass that up?
The only recent QB drafted in the 3rd round (or later), traded a couple of years later to become a starter, to have any success is Matt Schaub. That's probably Mallett's ceiling. If you want, at best, Schaub 2.0, and probably not even that, then go ahead and get Mallett who's shown even less in New England than Schaub did in Atlanta. Pass. From reading the article, there's somebody apparently advocating that we look to Jacksonville's practice squad QB as our future starter. WTF???
Bridgewater is questionable but I believe he can be good. Manziel I definitely wouldn't say will be better. He does have flashes but I see Manziel being another Tim Tebow, someone we all love but can't find his place at qb for an nfl team. Beside's O'Brien drafted Mallet before. I said Vick just because of his flash but you're probably right about the money and he's become injury prone.
It's just Morman's opinion that the Texans should go after Mallet. It makes sense that they may consider it seeing how he and O'Brien have a connection and they may can get him for a late round pick (or maybe a pick for next year's draft that would be determined by his production with the Texans). I don't necessarily agree they should go after Mallet but I could see why they would consider it. But I definitely don't think they would go after Vick.
I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Mallet in as a back-up, with an opportunity for him to compete for the starting job with either Bridgewater or Manziel. I just think we'd have better fish to fry with our draft picks rather than giving them up to freaking New England. This team has a LOT of holes, and draft picks are a commodity we can't dispose of. Mallett would be a waste.
Unless you think this kid can be an elite level QB then spending a lot on him and thinking you have your QB is a big mistake. Just look at the playoffs, almost everyone had a QB the better QB's win in the playoffs. To think you can compete for a championship without an elite QB is just wrong. Yes there is the possibility you can do like the Ravens and win with a second tier QB but even then Flacco had to play elite level crazy good to deliver. He dropped a notch back to his real level and so did the Ravens. Not getting a QB with a rare opportunity to get one in the draft will set this team back for a while. So unless Mallet turns into an elite QB passing on a QB this draft is a mistake.
IMO, there are only 4 elite QBs in the NFL and that's Payton, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees (depending on your definition for elite QBs). And Rogers and Brees got beat by two teams that are run based teams with great defenses and out of the QBs in the final 4 tournament only one of those guys is a 1st round pick. And the two QBs that played in the super bowl last year were not elite. My point is you do not have to have an elite QB to compete for and or win a super bowl... BUT, that doesn't mean I think the Texans should run out and get Mallet.
Then what does it mean? You talk a lot of what you don't want but what is it that you do want. You have no clue how good Mallet is just like you have no clue how anyone else is. Enough with all the BS **** and say something that means something besides just being diarhea of the mouth dribble.
Bite the bullet, draft a QB and develop them. Trading for Mallet is essentially kicking the can down the road. Big mistake. McNair is old, yes, but not so old that he can't live though a "mini rebuild".
ahh yes, nothing drums up more excitement from a disgruntled fanbase than acquiring a career back-up to be your new starting QB.
I want world piece... I want 5 dollar table dance night to be every night... And I want people to be able to post their opinions and or comment other people's opinions without acting like lil beaches if they don't agree. That's what I want... And I don't have a clue about Mallet. That's why I'm not saying what I think about him because I don't have an opinion on him. Haven't seen too much of him since his college days.
Having an Elite Quarterback will keep a team in contention for 10+ years. It allows you to not have to spend as much money on other players. Those teams without elite quarterbacks? Well they will last maybe 3-4 year run.
I'll have to disagree, he is backing up Tom Brady who is Top 3 Quarterback in the League if not the best.
I agree having an elite QB would be great. But elite QBs don't grow on trees. They are hard to find. But I'm putting my faith in O'Brien. At least we have a guy who has actually developed quarterbacks.
I haven't seen Mallet throw a football since college, so I'm not prepared to call him Schaub, or a retread, or an inaccurate passer. The guy hasn't seen the field since he played at Arkansas.
