I just wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on Cuttino Mobley. Mobley has been my favorite Rocket since his rookie year. I am truly exicted about the possibility of getting T-Mac, and it's definately a good deal for the Rockets; however, let us take a moment to give Mobley his props. Sure there were times he threw up circus shots while triple covered, but I'm going to miss those kind of crack-head antics. Mobley was never scared to take the last shot. He never loafed on the court, or in the off-season. Great smile, and he carried himself well. At one point, I swore he had the fastest first step in the league. Generally a great finisher. Also, there were times that left-hand stroke was unstopable. His defense progressed phenominally. I have a memory or two of Mobley getting back on defense and blocking a shot. An all-around nice guy, who stayed loyal to his team, and didn't gouge us in a contract year. Hail to Mobley. A class act, a real talent. I'll miss you.
Cuttino was a good player. He proved that he could adapt to a JVG system when no one (Most people here) thought he couldn't. I'll keep an eye on the rest of his career. I hope he's successful in Orlando
If this was last season, I would have been livid about trading Francis and could have cared less if the Rockets had traded Mobley. But I'll credit where it is due, Mobley became as very good player in my eyes this past season. He played great defense (which is what wins championships...ask the Pistons) and he will be sorely missed.
I once called Mobley the most selfish sob in the league. I took it back about 1 week into last season as he demonstrated his unselfishness with his fine play. Cuttino - go to Orlando, opt out next year and get the best deal you can. You deserve it.
I used to cringe when he made all those errors, and cheer when he got by his man. I think this last year he matured and was the best Guard the Rockets had. I will miss him, DD
It's amazing what a year can do. Last offseason, I felt the Rockets' #1 priority should be to unload Mobley. And here we are this offseason and I almost(I stress the word ALMOST) don't want Houston to make this deal if it means losing Cat. But getting a player like McGrady is an opportunity that doesn't come along very often, and pairing him up with someone like Yao Ming happens almost never. You get this thing done no matter who you have to give up.
lol. Mobley can obt out next year, and sign back up with the rockets. Perfect, but be quiet guys, its Rockets secret plan.
As a rookie he drove me nuts. But over time he gained my respect. I know he said he doesn't think much of the fans, but this fan loves him no matter what he says. He worked at being a good player and will only get better. He worked on his defense, shooting, and decision making. I noticed the strides he made and I have to give him his props. He was great in the community as well.
I've had the pleasure of meeting the Cat before, and I would just like to say that among NBA players, Cuttino, along with Desmond Mason, is one of the finest human beings that you will meet. I'll miss him. I'm still crossing my fingers that somehow we'll be able to keep him here.
He reminded me alot of the Rockets. Here is this kid that drafted in the late rounds. he comes out...plying out of position early on and plays well. He starts playing about himself....sometimes it wasnt pretty, but he tryed hard. I for one would like to see him back one day....maybe he can sign with the Rockets in about or 4th....maybe 5th championship season.
