First, can we afford Mo Williams or perform some sort of sign and trade with Luther or Rafer as the bait. Second would Mo Williams become a better option than Rafer. If we go by stats alone, Mo is a better option in some categories, however, he was accomplishing this with Redd out of the lineup. Mo is a definite upgrade on defense, even though Rafer steals are up. We all know Steve's issues - great rebounding guard and finisher at the bucket, but will dribble the air out of the rock and take some dumb/difficult shots.

    Stats on both

Player G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF TOT APG SPG BPG TO
    Maurice Williams 58 58 36.7 .443 .333 .856 .80 4.20 4.90 6.3 1.22 .10 3.05
    PF PPG
    3.00 17.5

Player G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF TOT APG SPG BPG TO
    Rafer Alston 71 71 36.7 .380 .378 .704 .40 3.00 3.40 5.4 1.59 .14 2.14
    PF PPG
    2.50 13.3

Overall, I think Mo will be a better asset, however, Steve might be in the mix if he accepts a boyout and the Rockets MLE plus JVG is fired for losing in the 1st round to Utah.

Mo Williams is solid and a good scorer. And he is still pretty young. Seems like a younger Mike James actually.

Mo has had a couple of good years now. I am sure he is going to be looking for the full MLE. I am sure Atlanta would be interested in him. Obviously they can offer above the MLE, probably the only team that would do that.

If the Rockets really want to improve their PG position, getting a guy like Mo would be a huge upgrade. And because he is young (25) he has a lot left on the tires and many productive years ahead of him. He has improved each year he has been in the league.

I like Mike James a lot, but if you could get Mo at the same cost, you probably have to do that considering the age factor.

none of the 3 shot 1000% so i don't know why vspan's name isn't on the poll choices.

But if i had to pick out of the 3, i'd choose Rafer since he's more comfortable with our offense and runs it pretty well. When i see Luther run our offense, i cringe so i'll take Rafer's streaky shot vs someone that can't run an offense. I don't think age should be a factor right now because there's always serviceable pgs every year like Mo in the free agency. Experience and chemistry matters most for PGs.

Start Rafer with Stevie at the 2-guard. Then rotate Luther in at the 2 and move Steve to PG while Rafer rests. Whoever is hot plays the 4th quarter.

Stickin with Rafer. No Franchise! I can't believe i'm saying this, but i would rather play/develop V-Span. Mo doesn't seem like a bad player, but Rafer has proven his ability to run this offense.

The team signing Mo Williams to a full MLE better hope he stills brings it after the ink is dry. Still, he would easily be a much better acquisition than Mike James. He's developed fairly well and may get even better.

I think Mo Williams age 25 is the biggest factor and he'll be the 3rd option on team capable of giving us points when Tracy or Yao take rest. Steve may not fit in because he can't defer to Tmac, I think he will accept defering to Yao.

I still like Steve at the pg running pick rolls with Yao where he puts his head down like Clyde and drives strong to the bucket.

I see Rafer breaking down in 1 or 2 years and who knows how many years Tmac has?

I'd like to see Rafer with Stevie coming off the bench. I think Stevie is at the point of his career where he would just appreciate ANY playing time. He's not getting any in NY.

Maurice Williams is a starter, so he obviously plays better than Luther. I don't know if he can run our offense like Rafer can. He's also shorter than Luther & Rafer, and I thought we didn't want midget guards...

There will be +/- 3 dozen 1s available this summer. A few will be obtainable by the Rox AND an upgrade.

IMHO Mo Wms would be a positive.

SF3 (or is he now SF1?) scares me as if he were to be bought out and return to Houston (for vet min or LLE) he would HAVE to HAPPILY accept the role mapped out for him, which I assume would be b/u 1, some 2 - perhaps 20 mpg, or so.

Rafer is OK but not the answer if Rox truly want to amke a move from pretender to contender status next season. He would fit in well with Nugs, Heat, Sonics (if they keep both RA and RL, that is) or Hawks.

BTW - I wonder if Kleiza - Lil Luke is still on offer?

At this point, any servicable 1 is an upgrade at the 1 position, if only because they a) force Rafer to the bench or b) provide Rafer with some viable backup without a Head getting in the way.

IF an upgrade were brought in then Rafer would need to be flipped IMHO (some would say he has to be flipped, in any regard -- or, perhaps, flipped off...the roster?).

    Stevie.

Rafer is still the worst starting point guard in the league, and very possible the worst PLAYER in the league at ANY position to play over 30 minutes per game. The guy's got some heart I guess, but god is he terrible.

I'd love to get Steve back, though, and have Steve/Rafer be our PG rotation. Still definitely some weaknesses, but it would be a huge improvement and a nice way to increase our depth.

Then we would be right back to square one. Luther would be the backup, and the new starter would be overworked.

I highly doubt we will be able to get somebody who works as well with this offense as Rafer does. If we do, it will only be margainally better, and we will still need Rafer to split the minutes.

Flipping Rafer would be foolish, IMO.
