I'm in a 12-team league, fairly standard scoring. The offer is: Ronnie Brown and Ben Roethlisberger for Chester Taylor, Andre Johnson and David Carr I don't want to say yet which end I'm on in the proposal, but curious your thoughts on if that is a fair swap, or uneven on one side or another. I'm not sure what to make of Andre Johnson this year.
I would do the trade if I'm getting Brown and not doing if I'm the one trading him. Brown looks to be the only back getting significant carries in Miami. Taylor, from what I've heard, hasn't had that great a preseason in Minnesota (even though preseason is mostly meaningless). You also just have no idea what you're going to be getting out of Andre Johnson or David Carr. If you have no WRs and you're the one trading for Johnson, it might be worth it. Can you post the two teams rosters?
Team A: Roethlisberger & R.Brown Team B: Carr, C.Taylor & A.Johnson Ronnie Brown is being drafted in the first round this year, but I'm not sure he deserves to be. Julius and Kevin Jones were both first-rounders last year who didn't exactly work out. Kevan Barlow was a first rounder a year before, and he was absolute crap. Having said that, Chester Taylor is just as unproven as Brown, with less upside. Andre Johnson is a fine player, but my expectations of him are tempered as long as Carr is throwing the ball. I actually really like Big Ben's chances this season. He should have a solid year. However, David Carr is absolutely worthless. Team B will probably want to cut him. So, it's essentially Brown/Ben for Chester/Johnson. I like the Brown/Ben side of that.
Chester Taylor and Andre will be HUGE fantasy stars this year. Ronnie Brown will be so-so. Ben already had his career year. If you are getting CT and AJ, accept immediately before he he wakes up
I see someone is not doing their homework. Chester Taylor? Less upside? lol You obviously have not seen the Vikes this preseason
Wow, thanks to each of you for the feedback. That's interesting that you're that high on C-Taylor, BobFinn. Hard to say right now. I read a lot of great things about Ronnie Brown and I'm wondering if the Minnesota RB situation in general will not produce a lot since Taylor's yards per carry is just 2.9 in the preseason. New coach, new back there though. We'll see. Here are the two team rosters as they stand right now... <table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=512><tr><td colspan="2"><strong>TEAM A</strong></td><td></td><td colspan="2"><strong>TEAM B</strong></td></tr><tr><td>QB</td><td>J. Ronnie and Chester are pretty much equals as far as upsides this year, although Chester is going a full round later so there is some perceived value there for Ronnie that may not be there in reality. I think Ben will come back down to earth somewhat this year and something tells despite sucking major ass David will atleast be respectable fantasy wise. This means AJ will also be somewhat respectable fantasy wise. Thirdly, the team receiving Chester DC and AJ will have to drop someone, consider this as well. In reality if this trade was staring me in the face I may like the Chester AJ DC side of it a bit better but I probably would not pull the trigger on it from either side at least not until we see how the Texan mystery is going to play out.
From that Team B stands to gain more since he is getting AJ and his receivers suck. no offense if you are team B
Ronnie Brown is gonna be a stud. If you're getting him, I'd say go for it. Chester Taylor, Andre Johnson both have issues and thus not likely to give you much this year.
Andre Johnson ruined my fantasy team last season in the Smeg League. I would have won the title for sure if I had a competant 2nd wideout. I'm a lot bigger on Ronnie Brown then I am on Chester Taylor. I think Taylor could have a sort of Lamont Jordan type stud-backup-moving-to-a-new-team season, but obviously the Vikes will look to throw as they always do, and I haven't like a single player in there offense since Moss left. Brown is in his 2nd year as the established runner, now that Ricky is out of the way I don't see anything holding him back, that offense is starting to really shape up. I'd do the deal if I was getting Ronnie Brown and Big Ben, but viewing the teams, team B needs wideouts like nothing else, I just don't think Andre is going to have a better year than Matt Jones or Javon Walker. I'd try to get one of those 2. Also Clutch I wouldn't put any stock in preseason stats, look at the likes of Edgerrin James's and his yards per carry right now. Most starting RB face the first team defense in the first quarter and don't stay in long enough to wear them down at all.
Last Year's Smeg League (wins-losses): moe -----------10-6 BobFinn --------15-0 Championship game (final score): BobFinn----------111 moe--------------99
If Eli wouldn't have disappeared in December and Steve Smith wouldn't have got himself thrown out of the game oh well, I had a good run, no doubt you were the best team, but I still could have pulled off the upset.
I'm actually Team A ... I've had Andre Johnson the last two years and he's been very frustrating, obviously. I'm sure the offense will be a lot different with Kubiak, but just not convinced the line/Carr will make Andre a guy who gets 7-12 catches every week. Hoping, just not convinced. And as someone mentioned, is it a huge dropoff from the Andre we've seen to what Matt Jones could do this year? I'm usually pretty good at evaluating trades, but the main problem for me in this one is it is before the season has started and it's hard to gauge what Ronnie Brown (first time to own the position) and Chester Taylor (new team, first time to own the position) will do. Is it enough of an upgrade to make the deal worthwhile, or will it just prove to be giving Andre away? Tough call. Thanks again all for the insight.
I'd do that trade. I was another who's fantasy team suffered with Andre last season. As long as Carr is the QB, he will continue to underperform. Lot's of people seem high on Brown.
I was offered R. Brown and B. Berrian for L. Fitzgerald and A. Green. That would leave my RBs and WRs as: Brown Sjax S. Smith Roy Williams A. Toomer Thoughts?
