The store replaced the computer free of charge but became suspicious when he returned a short time later with another potato-filled computer casing, police in the western city of Kaiserslautern said on Monday. "The second time he said he didn't need a computer any more and asked for his money back in cash," a police spokesman said. Police are now investigating the man for fraud.

A friend of mine that works at Wal-Mart said this kind of stuff isn't all that uncommon. Dude gets creativity points for actually replacing the innards of the machine instead of boldly just filling the box with them.
I remember this time at walmart this guy returned some weight lifting equipment, but in the box he had some bricks in it instead of the weights. He didn't get away with it because they actually opened up the box.
Oh, I'm sorry! Did you get one of the ones with potatoes in them? Yes, that happens every once in a while. Sometimes the manufacturers put the potatoes in the wrong pile, and the people in the assembly line just do what they think they're supposed to... Here's a new one. If it doesn't boot up properly or it starts sprouting "eyes" out of the back, let us know.
This is worse than the guy who tried to return a "faulty" computer at a place I used to work at. After inspecting the inside of the PC we saw that had spit on the motherboard until it short out.
