Yes. I would say Patrick Beverley, right? None of us saw that coming when they brought him over from Russia. Even Jae'Sean Tate to an extent.
I guess by “low risk/high reward,” I’m thinking of all the first round picks who didn’t cut it on the team that drafted them. Just off the top of my head: AJ Griffin Johnny Flynn Marqueese Chris Terrance Williams Thomas Robinson Hasheem Thabeet Hell, Māori brought through the entire 2009 first round during his tenure here. It always seems like their original teams were right to move on. That said, the current team and Ime as coach is theoretically a great fit for a reclamation project who’s willing to put in the effort. The problem with that is our deep roster doesn’t have much wiggle room.
Lowry, Dragic and Courtney Lee were all traded for while on their rookie deals. But yeah it’s been a while and they weren’t necessarily failing on the teams that drafted them.
I like Thon's jumper and he can alter and block some shots. He has no lateral movement. Players used to drive around him with ease in the NBA. He looked like he was going to fall down because of his awkwardness. This can't go away. His real age may be way more than 27.
Well I also hear that term thrown around with overseas guys (as it was here with Thon Maker) and undrafted players. And we've definitely had some hits on those. Hell, Chuck Hayes was one of those guys and he's one of my all-time favorite Rockets.
I don't like to say someone is too small, but he is REALLY undersized for the NBA. But he was honestly undersized for big time college ball too and he did pretty well for himself. I love the signing. He will be fun to watch if nothing else.
I’m just saying, if someone went down we would already have someone who will be in training camp developing chemistry with the team. Also he can get me some buckets and I only have to pay him $2. Y’all gotta look at every aspect of this. He has size and he can shoot. Business wise, I don’t have to go out and give up capital to get 3rd/4th string guy.
He'll be fine. He has learned his role of 3 & D stretch 4 or 5.......Pick-n-Roll lob threat. Easiest role in basketball that Wisemann and Bagley can't figure out; but Lively and Kel'el Ware understand. The help defense of Tari/Jabari will help protect Thon's footwork. Something will need to give from the duplication of Sengun/Steven Adams/Jock Landale/N'Faly Dante Sengun is the only mainstay: 1 of the others will be traded. Imo.
Where was he the last 3 years? Asia, Middle East? No joke intended, because there is a Saudi league somewhere. Almost completely off the grid.
Exactly Sengun (Will get Extension......I'm saying next summer) Steven Adams ( ??......some pros and cons) N'Faly Dante (minimal contract) ...................... > Jock Landale (Tweener somewhat) Thon Maker (Taller Jabari) Center/PF.....shot 39% from 3 on 4.2 3PA's per game (Fujian) https://www.basketball-reference.com/international/players/thon-maker-1.html Jabari Smith (Might be still thinner than Thon) small ball center
Jesus, are you seriously lumping in Scola & Vernon with Pat just to say Thon might work out?! Scola was already internationally established, Maxwell was Florida's top scorer in history and if it weren't for the drugs scandal he would've gone top 10 easily. Thon Maker has shown NOTHING to suggest he's even on PBeverley's level, which is low.
