James Thomas of Texas, NBA or not in a few years? As A texas fan, I am biased. He makes a lot of mistakes now, but he always seems to around the ball. Plays physical D- which turns into fouls now and lands him on the bench. Very intense. He has a knack for the glass. Much better than Mihm, Owens, Mueneke, Najera, Fizer. Scoring- inconsistent now. ------------------ As the wise Ewok philosopher, Logray, once said, "yub yub"
I feel James Thomas has a very bright future but just needs to take some time to develop. He is an absolute animal on the glass and hustles A LOT. 8 RPG in only 20 MPG is an absolutely crazy rebound per minute ratio. Not sure if he has arms as long as Donnell Harvey, but he does play a similar style of ball. The player on Texas with more immediate NBA potential could be Maurice Evans. Evans has looked like the prototype explosive 2 guard that NBA scouts look at. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
I always thought of Evans as more of a 3 or maybe even a 4. Jason Thomas will be amazing in a few years, I think. The guys got to develop some sort of scoring ability though. ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
R95, I think you are thinking of Owens, who may be a late second rounder. ------------------ As the wise Ewok philosopher, Logray, once said, "yub yub"
No, Evans is a 3, I haven't noticed him playing the 2 guard at all this year. Owens is a 4/5. ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com, coming January 20th, the top 10 films of 2000! and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
Evans played a little 2 at the begining of the year and I project he will be an NBA 2. It confused me when you put 3 or 4 when he doesn't post up very much and doesn't play like a 4. ------------------ As the wise Ewok philosopher, Logray, once said, "yub yub"
I stand corrected Joe Joe. Going to the game on Saturday? ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com, coming January 20th, the top 10 films of 2000! and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
I was there, sick. I can't remember Texas ever playing that flat at the Drum. Evans looked good until he got his fourth and lost his killer instinct. ------------------ As the wise Ewok philosopher, Logray, once said, "yub yub"
Not going on Wednesday, nothing good can come out of that game! We win, we're supposed to. We lose, that sucks. Going to the UConn game?
This is definitely the most athletic UT team I've seen. Thomas has a 40 inch vert. I think he's the best leaper among the freshmen players (in the country). I can't believe these guys are 12-2. ------------------ "We don't have any plans. We just plan to win." Mack Brown
Will Evans be drafted this year? I know he hired an agent. My sources at UT (Ollie the Lurker) tell me Darren Kelly suckered him into draft by saying how easy he was lighting people up at the first camp. I could see him helping some team with his three point shooting, but he doesn't create that much. Getting Temple in the first round sucked. ------------------
Maurice Evans really made a big mistake going pro this season. I am not just saying this b/c Im a Texas fan, now ex-student etc (I felt and still feel Chris Mihm made the right decision.) Evans has the NBA body to play the 2 guard spot, he's 6-5, absolutely chiseled, has long arms and is explosive. However, his game really needed one more year of refinement at the offensive end esp in terms of his intermediate mid range game. I felt that with one more solid season of development, Evans could definitely have a first round pick in 2002. However, Evans should atleast get drafted this year, but I would suspect somewhere in the middle of the second round. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
About thomas....I like the guy a lot. Plays hard, always seems to be around the ball, good rebounder, very intense. He has little to now offensive potential right now, but he's young. We called him "the trashman" because all of his points this year seemed to come on putbacks and inside lay-ins/ dunks. Anyway, in time, i think he might have nba potential. About mo evans- i really wish he wouldn't have declared. I think he has the nba body, but in such a deep draft, he's gonna slip through the cracks, and it'll be that much harder to grab a team's attention. He played a lot of 2/3 this year, mostly 2 if i recall. Him and Darren Kelly were somewhat interchangeable at times on the defensive end, depending on match-ups. When he's on, he's amazing. But he was really streaky, and probably didn't shoot too well from beyond the arc this year. He has crazy athleticism, but settles for the outside shot way too much. When he took the hole, he often finished with explosive dunks. But he rarely took the ball inside. Anyway, he's got the body to play nba ball, but i think his game could've used at least another year of college. I doubt he gets drafted before the late 2nd round, if at all. ------------------ "I think what I'm supposed to say is, 'I'm out.'"
Big,big mistake by Evans in declaring. I see another Jaron Rush in the making. One more year would have done wonders for him. ------------------
Evans has an NBA body, but no jumper or ball handling skills. I don't think he'sready. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
No jumper? I wouldn't say he's got a good jumper, but he's got more than no jumper. Ballhandling skills need improvement. ------------------
