http://msn.espn.go.com/soccer/news/2001/0922/1254026.html Anyone else besides me want to find these ****ers and burn them? Isn't interesting that the US Flag would not burn?
There are alot of countries and peoples out theer in the world that have good reason to hate us. we are bigbullies and we do like to tell othre people what to do. i belive there is a strong socialist party in greece, and there are many albanian immagrants as well. hell there can even be fundamental islamic soccerfans. so dont be shocked. please try to remember how many people we have killed all over the world be it for OIL in Kuait, or land in panama. or world power in vietnam /korea/afganastan.... booing was in poor taste, and should not have happened. i saw some soccer news that covered all the beautifull moments in those 70+ moments of silence. it was in poor taste, but get over it. burning a countries flag is a way of showing dis apoval of its actions. it is more than likely that the burners were upset at the WAR talks, the over reaction of america and its troops to this attack. if you really want to burn someone better make it the Americans that penned the japenese into concentration camps. the soldiars that raped the arabic women in the Gulf War. the people that killed off the native americans. the religous leaders that burned innocent women onder suspicion of witch craft in Salem. The church leaders that rape and fondel small boys(hell everyone that rapes and fundles anyone) Burn the corperations that poison these 3rd world nations burn the Men that trained binladen and the afganis in their fight against russia. oh wait a minute thats un american of me..... PEACE (this liberal view brought to you from the makers of Yellow journalism, and frustration with the american publics ignorance) cary on wink3cat5
I just forwarded this article to a friend of mine in Greece. Hopefully, she'll read it and give me/us a better understanding of the sentiment of the Greek populace.
Excuse me, dumb ass, but they hate us because we stopped their religious brethren in Serbia from raping and murdering more innocent people. 'American public ignorance', huh.
We aren't ignorant, you're ignorant because you seem to choose to believe we are the world's playground bully walking around picking on all the choir boys. Get over your self, the rest of the world has done PLENTY of bad things that would probably even make America blush.
no my friend.. it is not ignorance. i am well aware of the worlds misgivvings, but the origional poster seems to think that america is above all this. hell we propogate most of it. we stir the pot. we burn our own flag remember the 70s??? sheesh
Um...Americans aren't always known for respecting other countries. Numerous times during the past two years, Dallas Stars fans have booed the Canadian National Anthem during a playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers. Not the same as flag burning, but still, it proves there are idiots on both sides.
America supports Turkey, a country the Greeks are often at war with, which is likely why those fans were doing what they were doing.
VOR - why do you have to bring up something from the past? Was I referring to anything from the past? - the 70's NO Drug-Smoking Hippies - the Gulf War NO Iraqies raped/murdered/stole - America is above all that NO We are flawed, but UNITED. What I am saying is that its pretty shi-ty that a country would do something like that at a time like this. Funny how you only mention flaws in US history. Open a history book and look at what other countries have done numbnuts. The Greeks must have a short term memory - who helped them in WWII? The Allies. They sure don't mind being in NATO either if any **** hits the fan. This is a country with an avg income of only 12,110$ a year. BBC They also have had numerous problems with following their constitution. They also have limited free speech, so who knows exactly what their people have been taught.
You are right, that could be part of it. Similar to the hatred toward the US regarding Israel. That is the whole problem, the US is a melting pot of people with interest WORLDWIDE. It is hard to not choose sides and piss someone off. Violence only begets Violence. Not a way to make your point.
Anyone else besides me want to find these ****ers and burn them? And you wonder why these people might hate us. It's the endless cycle of hatred. You hate them because they hate you. Maybe they hate you because you hate them (having seen other statements like yours).
Thanks for your insight. I think it is OK to hate these people ( By people I do mean the terrorist and NOT Arabic people). They hate us so much they have weaved it into their religion and taught their kids that we are Satan. I may hate them but I will not teach my children or anyone else to hate them and I sure will not beg GOD to kill them all. I guess it is an endless cycle. What can you do about it? If we shouldn't hate them and shouldn't go attack them, then what should we do? No sarcasm intended, just want to know how can we possibly ensure our safety and way of life without protecting ourselves?

No sarcasm intended, just want to know how can we possibly ensure our safety and way of life without protecting ourselves? I'm not sure there is a good answer to that. I thought it a striking example of the problem we're facing -- I wasn't trying to criticize you, by the way. It's the same thing we wonder with Israel and Palestine. From the outside, it seems these people are just morons attacking back and forth and accomplishing nothing, but the cycle of violence is so deep that neither one will stop, and no one even really knows why they can't settle it. Its similar here with hate instead of violence. We hate them; they hate us. But the only reasons in either case is that the other hates the first. There's no real good reason for it outside of that.
UPDATE to the email I sent my friend in Greece. She replied: There are dumbasses everywhere. I think the vast majority of Greeks are sympathetic and support the U.S.
I cut the greeks some slack because i like that Greek Festival so much. Mmmmmm Gyros and Souvlaki (meat on a stick). Speaking of, the festival is about 10 days away.
