Over the last few days I've witnessed some of the craziest football games I've seen in a long time. Starting with the National Championship game friday, the unexpected blowout playoff games on saturday, and finally the two comeback games on sunday. There's not really a main point to this thread, I just wanted to talk about these crazy games and does anybody think it'll get any wilder next weekend?

I agree... what a crazy football weekend.

The Miami/Ohio game was nutz... when will they institute instant replay in college ball?

The Giants loss was tough... I'm a big Shockey fan!
I don't care about Pittsburgh or Cleveland but that game was just as nutty as the 49'er game!

I feel bad for those comeback losers. Most of us have been there. Bad news for my Titans is that Pittsburgh has absolutely no fear now. They were on the brink and that makes them very dangerous. Plus their defense is specifcally designed to stop us were we typically attack. We are the better team tho'. Should still win.

I'm glad the Titans just don't have to face the Jets yet. Bring on the Steelers.

Was it the Giants game where they didn't get a clean snap on a field goal attempt in the waning seconds. The holder then ran left and threw a pass downfield. I could have sworn a 49er basically tackled a Giant and this prevented the Giant from getting to the pass. He then stood up and started pointing at the guy who tackled him wanting a pass interference call. But, apparently the game was over.

However, the game cannot end on a penalty and it looked like a pass interference to me. So, why was it a no-call? Am I wrong? I thought it was blatant that the 49er basically took out the Giant and this prevented him from getting to the pass. I think without the interference he would have had a good chance to catch the ball. I could be wrong, though. I'm looking for some other input.

I didn't watch the game but just saw the replay so I may have missed something as I only saw the replay once. My first time to see it and I thought pass interference for sure but, instead, a no-call. WTF?

Pass interference....giants kick FG from spot of pass interference....Giants win. Right?

    thanks, Surf

The NFL needs to institute an overtime system similar to college football. I'm not even a big fan of college football, but that overtime was awesome...

Unfortunately, the guy downfield trying to make the catch was an offensive lineman and thus an ineligible receiver.

I'm wondering why the Cleveland WR didn't just throw the ball out of bounds to save the game... must be a rule, but I've never heard of one that prevents it.

I sure as hell hope that Giants fans aren't whining for a pass interference call on pass thrown by the holder after a botched field goal attempt, considering they had a 24 point lead and that game should have NEVER been in that situation in the first place...

I love holders throwing a pass

Yep,...My co-worker/friend told me this was the best weekend for football for him ever, and he is a big time football fan. I think a big reason is that he moved here from Ohio a year ago ;)

From an article on the CNN website:

After Garcia drove the Niners 68 yards in just over 2 minutes for Streets' score, Collins got New York to the San Francisco 23 with 6 seconds left. But Junkin, a 41-year-old journeyman signed earlier in the week, made a low snap that Matt Allen couldn't handle.

Allen threw a desperate pass that fell incomplete, although it was only third down and he might have been able to spike the ball and give the Giants another shot at a field goal.

After New York was penalized for illegal men downfield on the play, the Niners leaped, sprinted and collapsed onto the field in a raucous celebration before an exhausted Candlestick crowd.

"I tried to make the perfect snap instead of a good snap. You can't do that," Junkin said. "This is something I've done for 32 years, but not anymore."

The 49ers advanced to face Tampa Bay next Sunday, but the Buccaneers will have no idea which San Francisco team they'll face: the one that stumbled through the first 40 minutes, or the one that flattened the Giants with an unbelievable rally.

"This is about the worst loss I have ever felt in my entire life," said Giants coach Jim Fassel, whose team made the playoffs with four straight victories. "I'm not going to get over this one for a while."

Though New York's collapsing defense should bear most of the blame for the debacle, the Giants (10-7) finally were undone by Junkin. He put in his retirement papers last month, but was signed to replace injured Dan O'Leary.

"I was watching all these bad snaps and wondering: 'How many games are you going to lose over a snap?' It was frustrating," Junkin said earlier this week.

On the final play, Junkin's snap was low and away. Allen never had a chance to set it up for Matt Bryant.

That's pretty funny...making all those comments earlier in the week only to be the one to make a bad snap and blow the game for the Giants in the end. Hell of a way to retire. I'm sure Giants fans are not whining about a pass interference call. Like I said, I did not see the game and only saw that replay once not getting the full picture of what happened.

    According to the NFL:

Re: Giants flubbed FG attempt at end of playoff game.

Only a quarterback receiving a direct snap from the center can spike the ball. Cris Collinsworth and Jimmy Johnson were wrong. Had the FG holder spiked the ball, there would have been a penalty AND a 10 second runoff, leading to the clock being run down to 0:00 and the game being over.

The only option the guy had was to throw to an eligible receiver downfield or to throw it away while outside the tackle box. He did neither.

Very inexcusable for the special teams. What the hell is the purpose of practicing flubbed kicking situations and having a special teams coach if these possibilities aren't covered daily and just before the kick?

    Giants deserved to lose.

That would have been hilarious had he chucked the ball out of bounds. I'm sure there's some rule cause then everybody would be doing it to gain an extra 4-5 yards before being tackled.

The reciever was eligible, but some linemen went downfield a bit too.

I looked up the rule about throwing or fumbling forward and that exists in the last two minutes only. No offensive player can advance a fumble in the last two minutes. If you fumble it forward and out of bounds (at any time) you get the ball were you fumbled (except the kelso rule about enzone).

But I didn't see a rule if he were to throw it backwards. I mean he would lose two or three yards, but save 3 seconds of running time.

Lets not forget, the New York Jets still were only a 9-7 team this year. They are playing at a high level, But I just don't think a team that was beaten that many times in the regular season can have success in the playoffs.

The Raiders will win this game.

I think the Titans have enough to beat Pittsburgh, As long as McNair is still making all the plays.

I think your are right Moe. The Jets are not only 9-7, but if you look at the passing stats they are not that impressive. It's not like the Jets offense is in a super high gear. It just appears that way. They can still be stopped. What makes them dangerous is that all three WR's are good. Each has a special skill. If Pennington uses those skills it will be tough to beat them. Confidence is key. And the Jets have more of that then the Raiders right now. They won.

The Steelers 304 should help Eddie George get into the backfield more than ever before. That actually plays into our hands. Especially with two o-lineman coming back this week. Where the 3-4 kills us is in the short passing game. A 3-4 can really clog that up. We don't play fake a whole lot so that won't help us. The Threat of McNair running will help us downfield. But as everybody knows, we don't throw it deep a whole lot. Fischer has beaten Pittsburgh his whole life. So he knows how to outcoach them. Let's hope he can do it again so that the Raiders and Titans play :)
