    I am in tears......

I don't think people realize how important this election is to everyone in the world, and the fact that our country gets to vote out unpopular leaders, when so many in other countries do not get that chance is something to celebrate.

As a friend of mine in the UK said..."Finally, you guys are not just talking the talk, but are walking the walk, good for you mate"

Obama is a rock stock. A once in a lifetime type president. Was Kennedy ever this popular? For America and the worlds sake, I hope he leads us out of this hole that we are in.

Of course, then there are people in the U.S. who say it worries me when the world celebrates our new leader.

This. I have often told my friends that Americans take their freedoms for granted too much. Many of the people around the world you see in some of these videos don't even have that privilege of knowing that they can vote out an unpopular leader. America has been the champion of democratic government for so long, and it was becoming despairing for most people who were losing faith in the one beacon of freedom they always knew. This election has significantly changed that trend -- all of a sudden, America is the great hope of freedom and democracy again. That alone transcends the issues, and that's why most people on the right who are more concerned about whether Obama is a socialist who will take away all their hard-earned money can't understand why the rest of the world is so excited.

I've never seen this kind of reaction in this country to an election.

It's like we just overthrew a petty dictator.

On second thought, scratch the first two words of the previous sentence.

I totally agree w/ you and Dada. I had a discussion on this alone w/ friends for at least an hour this weekend. People in the US and around the world have always been jaded and disenchanted about voting and politics. But for one moment America proved that democracy still works as it was intended. Each individual person really has the power to make a difference, and the world heard it loud and clear. The peaceful transition of power is something we shouldn't take for granted.

Given the select sample size of the GARM, I give Obama a honeymoon of 5 games...

It's truly amazing how a single person can have so much effect on the world...it's just crazy! I haven't seen this in my lifetime.

I wonder if he knows how much effect he's having on the world...he probably doesn't want to think about it or it will overwhelm hm.

It's all very exciting, but the honeymoon won't last long.

    And it shouldn't.

Wait till he has his first two game losing streak...

What I'm wondering is will there be a lot of fans saying that Yao would play much better under a different president? ;)

All I know is that those were some angry partisan crowds. So full of anger, those Obama supporters. Singing the National Anthem? That's the definition of angry and partisan.

By definition a crowd celebrating the political victory a candidate of a particular party is partisan. I don't know where you are getting the angry about unless you are referring to a different thread.

Based on polling the last few days before the election, I took it for granted Obama was going to win. After it became obvious as the votes were tabulated, my mind shifted to the incredible mess our country is in and the massive task Obama's administration will have to dig us out.

Inauguration Day is when the whole thing is going to hit me like a ton of bricks. When Obama lifts his right hand and takes the oath of office, the entire world will be watching. January 20, 2009 will be a vacation day for me. If my sister can pull a few strings and score some tickets, my family and I will travel to Washington D.C. and spend the whole week up there.
