I know Smith had a horrendous year. Really really bad shooting numbers, though I haven't seen defensive metrics. He's also making around 15 mil for 3 more years I believe. Would adding Smith be an absolute disaster for this team? Only positives I could think of is that he could help solidify our D and hes basically what tjones ceiling is. He can probably be had pretty easily bc of his contract, but I'm assuming morey would rather wait it out for a better 3rd star? Thoughts? Would it be a disaster, even if we got it through his head to shoot less?
great. lets get smith on 15 ml per and get stuck with him for 3 more yrs. Let parson walk and pass on 2015 freeagency.
Still think he would fit. Best case scenario, DMO's 3p shooting, TJones ball handling and weakside blocks and Asik's defense. Not to mention good friend with dwight. Worst case scenario, make james harden tear out his beard.
He's a horrible chucker that makes any team worse. Go take him if you like to see a bad shooter jack up every open shot from midrange/3 he gets. Mind boggling how people on CF ask for Smith every summer and trade deadline, I thought at least his recent Detroit tenure would've made people realize who he is. The only way Smith would be a helpful player is if he'd stop shooting anything from 12ft to the 3pt line and focus on scoring on fast breaks or pick&rolls. But seeing how many years he#s been in the league it's quite obvious he will never change.
We don't need to pay $15m for: - very good defense - poor FG% - worse FT% - even worse 3pt% For $13m less, D-Mo can achieve 90% of what Smith can achieve, and Jones looks exactly like a rookie Josh Smith.
Your understanding of Morey's philosophy is about as accurate as your description of Smith's play-style.
You realize how successful we were at points in the paint and transition throughout the season, right? There's absolutely no way you're a frequent poster here and didn't know that, so I assume you are just really down about the playoffs and feel Morey could have done something to avoid that.
Josh Smith needs a very strong coach to get into his ear, and command him never to shoot threes and only attack the paint. If smith hasn't figured it out in such a long time in the league, he needs a coach to harness him. McHale is definitely not that coach. Although, I admit I'm intrigued by a lineup with Smith as center when we go really small.
Josh smith is good in the paint and transition? Last time I checked this team plays slowed down iso ball. Tell me, which stats did you use?
